Who is controlling us ?

It seems that some agency, other than seniorforums, is controlling what we can , and can not discuss.
That agency appears to be Google.

Why should we not be allowed to discuss various aspects of human behavior ? We are, after all ... adults.

Additionally, certain words are banned. I can understand, and agree with the banning of certain foul words, BUT words that are not foul , should not be banned.
Take the word for assault on females, the "R" word, for example. "R" is not about sex. "R" is about anger and power. Only a diseased mind would "R" a woman, or even another man, but the word itself is not offensive. The ACT is offensive.

Moreover, photos are sometimes banned. Indeed, entire threads have been deleted for posting certain photos. Photos which any of us would see if we read thru the woman's magazine Cosmopolitan. Such photos are a part of normal everyday life. If we sit in any doctors waiting room, we might very well see an issue of Cosmo. Good heavens, ads that we see every day on billboards, on Tv etc can be banned.
Seriously, how offensive can that be?

Can anyone please explain why we should be thus controlled ?

I believe the owner of this site has expenses to run this forum and so Google helps offset some of the bills. I think that's what it is anyways. And then Google has rules that have to be adhered to.

So, we have a little we have to put up with in order to have this forum to enjoy. I don't think it's a lot to ask anyways.

Nobody is controlling us. Unless your brain is physically plugged into your computer or phone. If it is, there are probably ways of having it removed. Sorry you feel so boxed in.
Chef is referring to censorship of certain words. That in some cases is control or at least the attempt to control what we read. Not here but in google's control of what is online.

I've been on forums that ban anything religious or political, all the way to deleting posts where discussions got too heated. Being on a forum where everything has to be sweetness and light just isn't my cup of tea. I like reading discussions where people get passionate about their point of view and just about every topic is okay. I just don't like lewdness or raunchy language or personal attacks. Other than that...have at it!

You're right Ruthanne, and I agree, not a lot to ask at all.

Take a few of my words away? Fine

Take my forum away? #!*#&##!!

Yeah, some pics are prolly on the edge of acceptance.....so they get deleted.
Best to take note.
We can always use words to get a point across just as well.
Jus' not some words.
The English language has a rather large selection of synonyms with which to choose.

Think back! Do you remember when America was free? Did you ever have to watch your words or use synonyms 25 years ago?

It's true that social media is using censorship pretty liberally, and Google is one of them. I'm not sure why.

A lot of people are migrating to platforms that promise not to censor, like Odysee and Locals. Reddit doesn't censor but they will block or ban people who actually sound violent or criminal.

Matrix provides us with a safe place to play.

IMO that’s more important than the few rules that we are asked to obey while we are here.

What , for an instance? Should I say "F**k Y** if I dislike your comments? Should we have to keep the computer facing away from the little ones because we can use unrestricted language? Shall we allow FOX to publish unrestricted BS but not MSNBC or vice versa ? And who is to determine what is (the recent invention of) FAKE news?

We are proving everyday that the language and subjects that were once regarded as appropriate among polite company is disappearing and some restriction is needed to preserve or at least slow down it's disappearance.

Any time people lose the power of freedom of speech, we ALL lose.
Make no mistake about it. I do NOT advocate using foul language. As a matter of fact, some time ago, a new guy's very 1st post used extremely foul language. He posted very foul language about certain part of a woman's body, and I jumped all over him AND I reported him. He has not been heard from since.

That being said, we should be able to have adult conversations, and not merely "fluff stuff'.

Constitutionally, Freedom of Speech means Governmental interference and does not apply to private business, like Google. You know that, I'm sure.
I'm not so sure about that. Any agency/business that has the power to shut us up, is also dangerous.

It is an odd thing about Google as a server. They can shut us down for speaking out , BUT they are also servers for the most obscene things imaginable. Some time ago, I was curious about the people who invaded Congress on Jan 6th. I did a search and up popped some truly nasty sites.
