Kids are like that though Bea. I mean adults getting along and accepting each others' differences. We used to be more like this.It would be nice if we could all mind our own business and peacefully coexist. These days it seems to be all about what each individual wants with little thought or concern over how it impacts others.View attachment 191205
I can accept a personās differences but there needs to be a degree of empathy and compromise beyond the simple notion of live and let live.Kids are like that though Bea. I mean adults getting along and accepting each others' differences. We used to be more like this.
see here in the UK..unless you're actively involved in a political party... no-one cares what political side you're on to be friends ( unless of course you're supporting some terrorist activity, that's different) .. we just don't discuss politics with our friends if we support different political parties, it just never comes up in conversation, we live and let live.. or at most there's some lighthearted ribbing occasionally at voting time .... it's absolutely no big deal in the UK... we differ very much from the US in this ..I can agree with this. I don't expect anyone to have my point of view. I knew a woman years ago and we became work friends and went to a couple events. We were totally on the opposite political scale. We just never discussed politics.
That's really good to hear. In fairness, I think there are people in the U.S. who are fine this way. But then again you have the others who are not. I don't think it's age specific either. It varies.see here in the UK..unless you're actively involved in a political party... no-one cares what political side you're on to be friends ( unless of course you're supporting some terrorist activity, that's different) .. we just don't discuss politics with our friends if we support different political parties, it just never comes up in conversation, we live and let live.. or at most there's some lighthearted ribbing occasionally at voting time .... it's absolutely no big deal in the UK... we differ very much from the US in this ..

I agree things are becoming toxic. I was thinking more of forcing health decisions upon others than politics but they have merged to be almost one and the same. In real life I find common ground with everyone. Which is really nice. I just remember a time in which people, not just in America but almost the world over, had much more compassion for one another and it led to a more peaceful life overall. Many miss those times. We are at the edge of a very important time in our U.S. history. Some wags have even compared our situation to the build-up before the civil war.
Was the North supposed to let the South continue to enslave human beings? After all, Live & Let Live. That's a lot to overlook.
I know what you mean, chic. My best friend is totally opposite from me politically & religiously. We don't talk about it, but sometimes she slips something in and sometimes I feel so disgusted about what I know to be her views that I wonder how I can carry on with this friendship although it began 50 years ago this January.
I would love for us to all calm down and take Holly's approach but our issues here now in the states are humongous and potentially life altering for many citizens.
It was easier when we could say "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful"; it's more "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful But I do ugly things."but
We all just need to NOT be the person a pain to live next to.The problem is learning to tolerate each other., People are selfish, egotistical, stupid, quirky, overtly emotional, inane, and generally, a pain to live next to.
And what times were those, chic? The times that never existed, those times one could only see while wearing rose-colored glasses? The good old days were generally only good for some. I'm sorry to say those times never really happened, except in the imaginary days combined with youthful exuberance.I just remember a time in which people, not just in America but almost the world over, had much more compassion for one another and it led to a more peaceful life overall. When I was a kid and a teen people were not polarized like they are now.And what times were those, chic? You have to look at adult perspectives. You were a teen in the 60's or 70's? I could tell you lots of stuff and be a real party pooper. When I was a kid and a teen people were not polarized like they are now.
I agree 100%Yes, We all come from diverse ideologies and it's almost impossible to agree on every issue. People are so passionate about their opinions.
Like Remy said, just stay away from certain topics and try to appreciate them for their other attributes.

What do you mean "Men bearing children?" Do you mean when a female 'changes' to male but leaves her organs intact? Just guessing, but please clue me in.
Also, our debt. No one expects we will ever pay it, and who is going to make us do so?
Debt isn't a bad thing so long as you have the ability to pay for it. What the deficit will be is something that bears watching. At my age I don't think any of what is being done or not done will affect me. But looking into the future I don't feel confident that America will stay as the world leader.@JimBob1952
