Did you vote today?

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
I was shocked that I did not need to show identification! I only had to say my name and was given a ballot!
With all the migrants coming over the border, anyone could say my name and take my vote. This is not safe!

Yes.

I provided name, address, and signature as usual.

The worst that could happen is that someone could attempt to assume my identity or the identity of another registered voter. The deception might go unnoticed if the real registered voter did not appear to vote.

It would be virtually impossible to commit fraud on a large scale.

It has worked this way for my fifty years as a voter without any significant problems that I’m aware of.

I would be in favor of a way to vote at home with my computer or iPhone. I believe that it would be possible with existing technology similar to any other secure online transaction.

I didn't receive a mail -in ballot! Where did my mail-in ballot go? i repeat! This is not safe!
Did you apply to receive mail-in ballots Gaer? Did you vote by mail during the past recent elections? Did you report to the officials when you realized you didn't receive your ballot in the mail? I definitely would have. My ballots and my husband's have always come on time and we usually vote as early as possible.

New Mexico absentee ballot rules

Any registered New Mexico voter may apply for an absentee ballot and vote by mail.

New Mexico absentee ballot directions

  1. Use our Absentee Ballot Tool to prepare your application.
  2. Sign and date the form. This is very important!
  3. Return your completed application to your Local Election Office as soon as possible. We'll provide the mailing address for you.
  4. All Local Election Offices will accept mailed or hand-delivered forms. If it's close to the deadline, call and see if your Local Election Office will let you fax or email the application.
  5. Double-check the deadlines and be sure to cast your voted ballot on time to be sure it is counted.
  6. Please contact your Local Election Office if you have any further questions about the exact process.

Actually, yes! and I voted by absentee ballot last time. Disconcerting!

@Gaer Did you contact your county clerk about not receiving your ballot? You should have.

What if I do not receive my absentee ballot?

  • If you apply for, but do not receive the absentee ballot, you may apply for a replacement absentee ballot by communicating with the county clerk and requesting a replacement mailed ballot be delivered to the voter; and executes an affidavit and the county clerk has voided the mailed ballot previously issued to the voter. (Section 1-6-16 (B), NMSA 1978).
  • You may also go to your polling place and vote on a replacement absentee ballot on Election Day, after signing an affidavit of non-receipt of absentee ballot (Section 1-6-16.1(A), NMSA 1978).
  • In both cases, you will be required to sign a sworn statement, under penalty of perjury, that you did not receive your ballot.

I was about to offer my ID but was told it wasn't necessary. Just sign the voter form after giving my address with birth date and you would get a ballot. Mind you, my finger prints and signature are all over the sign in form. Had there been vote fraud, the FBI could trace one's finger prints and charge any culprit with a crime.

no finger prints. no birth date info. no ID.
i guess each state is different.
Maybe I'm making too much of this, but it doesn't seem secure.

WA State is a vote by mail state. All registered voters receive a mail ballot weeks prior to the election date. They are postage paid and there are secure lock boxes all over for those who choose not to use the US Postal Service. My closest drop box is at the local High school. I voted several weeks ago.

Same here in Colorado. I have a library by me that has a drop box, very convenient and secure. They do have many other ones at different locations.

Good question, did you call your election officials?

In Utah I think we are 100% mail in (or you can drop the mail ballot at the courthouse). I know that's how it was in 2020, no polling places any more. If you don't get a ballot in the mail you can contact the county folks to get one.

They do a pretty good job of tracking the ballots, if yours gets used twice they know and investigate.

Yes, I voted today. My polling place was the elementary school I attended. For mayor, comptroller, four referendums, a new councilman who is a real hard worker. I directly told his aunt I'd vote for him, and felt bound to do it! He called several times before and after the primary. Very smart.

Also, I was a poll/election worker. The voter would give his/her name and signed a page which contained all the other signatures he/she made at elections. If I had a suspicion that a signature was false I was to call over one of the inspectors, who would delve further. That never happened, though.

Weeks ago, I sent in my mail in ballot. So much easier than going to a polling station.
It really is! If I ever did not receive my ballot at the time expected, I'd immediately contact the officials to see what was going on. Not sure why Gaer didn't do that if she was concerned.

I did that for several years before I entered the fray and ran for election and got myself elected as County Committee Woman.

Today at my polling place, those big books were gone and all I did was sign the laptop after I gave my name, address and date of birth. Easy peasy. Sometimes I do adore high tech.

How racist.... to even think that someone would try and take advantage of this....
Next think you know dead people will be voting....
