If you were given one thousand acres of land that you didn’t need to pay taxes on and couldn’t sell, what would you do with it?

I would create a 200 acre lake and plant wetlands plants as a haven for birds and Turtles.
I would also plant 50,000 native trees. It would become a sanctuary for wildlife. Foxes, rabbits and feral cats would be kept out.
That's wonderful 😍😊 I didn't post anything yet because your idea is close to what I would do. I'll follow up with the details later. Need a little time to think.

I would build a huge house 🏠 or perhaps 2 or 3 or more. I'd have to hit the Lottery to do this...Farmland with all sorts of crops growing. An animal rescue sanctuary for all kinds of animals. I would need to employ many people to help feeding and caring for them, including a good Veterinarian.

One of the houses would have a gym and pool for stress relief. Also, a bowling alley room as well as a movie theater.

We'd also need a team of groomers for grooming the animals that would need it.

We would be one happy family, all of us and the animals ❤️💜😍🤞🥰💞💕🏠🌻

I would house refugees from war-torn countries because they need a place to live. The land would consist of buildings that they would build themselves, a school for the children to learn, and basically a community that would accept them so they wouldn't feel left out. I know this sounds far-fetched, but we need more of these kinds of ideas for displaced people.

Since you did not specify the location I choose 1000 acres of rainforest so I could protect it from wood cutters and encourage research into medicinal plants.
If it was anywhere in the states and within one hour away from a major airport I would create a community that offered facilities for retreats, workshops and weddings.

Been involved with that
Unfortunately, more problematic than fixes

I'd get a workshop retreat going for twentysomethings
Teach cabin building, wood butchering
Hands on

I would make part of it a wild life sanctuary. And have a stable for a few horses. A barn with some farm animals and chickens. There would also be a small community of senior citizens with small disabled access homes within walking distance of each other. No rent, just utilities cost and an aide service for those who needed or wanted it. It would be pretty and well kept and a fun place to live. If you wanted to socialize, you could and if you didn't want to you would not have to.

I would do nothing with it. I would leave it as pristine as I could. When I bought my home, I wanted land. I wanted to create my own empire. So, I bought 1.3 acres in a rural setting. That was close to 30 years ago, when I was able bodied. Today, I'm in a wheelchair, and I actually use very little of the 1,3 acres. Instead of a vibrant forest area, I have 1 acre of lawn, which is pretty much a dead zone. I don't believe I needed all that land to plunk a house down. Now, it's a chore to mow. 1000 acres would be a huge job, so since I don't need it to live: on. I'd just want to leave it as nature intended. 30 years ago, I would have developed it.

Could you build close to my 1000 acres please? :)

Love your idea @Bretrick If I had any land, I'd make it as wildlife friendly as possible.

I'm a cat person but mine are strictly indoors. The fixed and released at my workplace are fed by me. I want them full and not going after birds. I'm OK with the couple of mice murders I've noted. The gulch is probably full of them.

I agree with you 100%.
