CVS Is Closing 900 Stores

I wish WG would close stores and not keep opening more.Maybe there are exceptions but the ones within a few miles of me are just disgusting. They charge at least 1/3 more for merchandise than WM or groceries, their front end workers turn over so fast they never learn their jobs or basic customer service, or you are waiting for a Rx and it happens to be their sacred engraved in stone lunch time they will slam their window shut before they’d take a minute to help someone waiting. Take no responsibility if their “ corporate” services mess up at their location, like double charging a customer for a pickup order.
Getting my Rx’s & OTC at a supermarket Pharm now & treated wonderfully.

Our local Walgreens are both nice. Our CVC, not very.
But I use Rite-Aid. It's closest to my house and the employees are all very respectful. The white-coat and I sling sarcasms at each other and his workers love it. Makes their day fun for a while. I don't buy groceries there, though. Not many choices, too pricey, and there's a 99-cent Discount store on the same block.

In this area there is a chain drugstore on just about every corner and in every major grocery store.

IMO we sill see more consolidation as people move to ninety day mail order prescriptions or the lower priced offerings of stores like Walmart.

Our Walgreens isn't very great either; the employees are trying their best but they're so short-staffed (even before COVID and it's even worse now). But with our health insurance we have to use Walgreens. Like Murrmurr says, I really like our Rite-Aid and wish we could afford to get our prescriptions there, RiteAid seems to hire enough staff and they're hardly ever out of stock like CVS and Walgreens are.

Where I live, Walgreens and Rite-Aid have consolidated, and their stores are together under one roof.
They are better physically than the CVS's older, smaller places,
for not being so cramped and tight, as our CVS stores are.
Those CVS stores are very difficult to navigate with a wheelchair, and if one wants any bit of social distancing.
Walgreens is much better on those issues.

At our Walgreens, the problem with the Pharmacy, and the reason they don't and can't give better service than they do,
is that there is only 1 Pharmacist,
and the staff cannot and should not, do things when not supervised by that one person.
And some tasks can only be legally and correctly done by a Pharmacist, themselves.

If there were 2 Pharmacists, then they could take turns having their breaks,
but with just one, the one that we have, at ours, takes very minimal breaks, but they need to close the window or curtail service, when they grab a very short break.
Our Walgreens has signs that tell us when the Pharmacist break always is, so that a customer can make a note of it, and try to plan for that, once aware of it.

But it surely would be better if the Corporate made more hiring's!

I think they were one of the first big box drug stores to use those stupid club cards. And even if you got one the sale prices weren't that great. Still I can't believe the business some of them get because there are shoppers that don't look at price tags.

I like CVS only because I get free dollar coupons and 30% off. Still, their gold emblem private label is usually mediocre food products, and they are less stocked than other stores. The one I went to closed this year.

In my little community, we have a small pharmacy inside of a medical building. It's very convenient (walking distance from my house) and if you want them to deliver the prescription to your home, they do so within a day.

Bad side: It's strictly a pharmacy. In other words, they are not selling cosmetics, toys, household items, etc. The big box pharmacies have turned into supermarkets.

And it's closed on the weekends. So you have to plan ahead.

We have one CVS in our town, it's about 8 miles from me one way. I gave up on them years ago. I would have a script come due. I would go in & they would give me 2 pills & say the rest will be in tomorrow. Go in the next day again with 2 or 3 pills.

Several times I've walked out & got home & had another person's meds. I call them & told them what happened. They tell me to bring it back. I tell them H no you made the mistake you bring my meds & pick up these. They wouldn't do it. So I waited a week to take them back.

The kicker that made me stop using CVS was they gave me 3 pills for my heart one time, got a big blizzard. I called them saying I was out of my heart medicine & what are you going to do since I can't get out to get it. They told me sorry they don't have any of that medicine in the pharmacy & won't till a truck comes in. I went 5 days without my heart medicine. They would not fill a script till I was down to 1 or 2 pills.

I now go to a pharmacy attached to our hospital in Lafayette or about 15 miles away. The text me when I'm down to about 15 pills, I usually get 90 day supply that my scripts are ready to be picked up. If there is a big storm coming they will over-fill my scripts so I don't run out. Also, they are about 1/3 cheaper than CVS.

Places like CVS and Walgreens are pricing themselves out of existence. A couple of years ago, my wife had a minor fracture in one of her ankles, and the hospital fixed it up, and said she needed to use a walker until it healed. There were nearby Walgreens and CVS stores, so we stopped at each...they both wanted about $100. We drove a few blocks further to Walmart, and bought virtually the same item for $40.

I used to love my local Rite Aid, but it was bought out by Walgreens. The other Rite Aid store near me was bought out by CVS so now there is NO Rite Aid store anywhere near me. CVS is so expensive. I never use them. Walgreens is a bit better.

Do they still have Drug Emporiums. For years I shopped there because they a true discount Pharmacy.

The problem with these CVSs Walgreens etc is their prices are high and they are convenient for a lot and wound up taking out alot of smaller family owned pharmacies so many had limited choice if they didn't want to travel.

It still blows my mind that places like Walmart can dispense medical scripts.
Well they have pharmacists just like any other drug store. I would hope their pharmacy staff has the same degree of credentials as those who work in other drug stores. Same for Costco, both of which have good prices. My husband used to use the Walmart pharmacy. I never did because our state retiree program hooks up up with a mail order pharmacy with great prices. I have used Costco's pharmacy in the past though.

I feel like I have been living in the bush. Can't figure out what in the world is CVC and WG. I think that WG is short for Walgreen but I'm still stuck with that CVC. Sounds like some sort of ABS pipe that I used when I build a home and did the plumbing?

There are just too many pharmacies. I have both a Walgreens and CVS within walking distance. I don't use them. I get my vaccines and scripts from Kroger Pharmacy which is slightly farther away.

Just like Starbucks, pharmacies seem to be on every corner. From a business standpoint, it would make sense to shrink the number of unnecessary/underperforming units, thereby improving staffing and service.

Think it's supposed to be CVS...spellcheck can be a pain at times😀😤

Pharmacies are sprouting up like weeds. Within 10 miles of me, I have 3 CVS's, 3 Rite Aids, and1 Walmart. And if CVS closes 900 stores, they can probably squeak by with the other 10,000 stores they have. I use Rite Aid, because it has better pharmacy hours, but the store part is open 24/7. I guess that's in case you want to buy essentials, like a back scratcher, and a Mother's Day card @ 4AM.

For many years CVS was not on a list of Pharmacies our Health Plan could use (Tricare-For-Life).
Got a notice recently that CVS had won a contract and would be added to the list.
Haven't been in one for years, but pass one every time I pick up a new prescription at the local Walgreens.
We use the 90-day thing for everything else.

Might give them a try.

CVS is merged with Aetna Insurance.
I hate my CVS, but it's too convenient to use another and the small pharmacies have too few hours and days.

Use the nearby CVS regularly for our prescriptions. I have to use a cane to get around and they have a drive through lanes for prescriptions only. Any "over the counter" stuff usually comes from another source and the kids or grandkids pick it up for us.

Hi!
Used to get my BP med at a pharmacy in/at a local grocery store..but they had to get the authorization thru the doctor..sometimes "screwed-up...mess"...but when I couldn't get there and asked if they delivered...they didn't...
..checked with my healthcare provider and now get them thru the mail.
Easy-peasy! 👍
