Without a doubt, Hayley Mills was my first crush. She was so darned cute in the original Parent Trap. So imagine my shock and horror when I saw her playing an old lady on an episode of Midsomer Murders.

She is old -- 75 -- but that's only six years older than I.

Seeing her on TV (I didn't recognize her; she looked familiar but then I saw her name in the credits) made me feel really, really old.

Watching the Kominsky Method and seeing Kathleen Turner as she is now was a surprise. She has gained weight, possibly due to treating for RA. She's actually 2 years younger than me, of course a lot of people are.

I'm curious (but not so curious as to look it up myself) did Hayley Mills do a lot of acting after those Disney films? I like to think she got married, raised a beautiful family and just acts now for the fun of it. But I'm probably wrong.

One of her first non-Disney roles was as the 16 year-old in "The Chalk Garden." My mother and I saw it together. I loved Haley and my mother's favorite actress was Deborah Kerr, so we were enthralled. It's a very good serious drama.

The tabloid press went overboard with lurid reports when Hayley Mills debuted her first nude scene in the comedy The Family Way, the shot of her derriere caused quite a stir, and was touted by some media outlets as being "morally unfit for children" even though the movie wasn't a children's film anyway.
That film, so tame, was a dramatisation of the book: "All In Good Time." Now that was a racy read for an impressionable young man.

I looked up her IMDB profile. She has been reasonably busy throughout her career and did a lot of stage work in the UK and US. I still feel like with her looks, personality and talent she should have been a much bigger star as an adult.

Raised in the Mills family I think she had a more balanced upbringing than most child stars. I really enjoyed her in films like Whistle Down the Wind and Tiger Bay.
