Being alone on Christmas Day

I hope people who are spending Christmas Day alone this year will remember that you can still stay in contact with others on websites like this one. Maybe someone in this position could start a thread here to bring together those who, for whatever reason, find themselves alone this year on this special day.

Long time ago....We had so many people on Christmas Eve.....
Most have been gone....
It seems me and my hubby are the older set now....
We are going to my brother's home for Christmas Eve....
With my grandson, my daughter with her hubby and 2 kids...
they are both in college....
My son and daughter in law will be there...no kids yet...
Of course we are all vaccinated .....
Merry Christmas to all..........

Hubby and I will be staring at one another ... again this Christmas. Not going anywhere. My sister bluntly suggested that we stay home rather than travel due to the pandemic. Hubby's sister is extremely paranoid and doesn't invite anyone over. So, we'll be home for Christmas.

We would invite hubby's son over but he continues to have many friends over to their place and we just can't take chances.

We might not have a choice here in the UK.....

from todays' headlines....

SAGE's scientists are warning that Christmas may have to be cancelled for a second year with calls for a two-week circuit breaker lockdown and a ban on indoor mixing to stop hospitalisations from the Omicron Covid wave peaking at 3,000 a day.

Leaked minutes of a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) warn that restrictions are needed 'very soon' to avoid hospitalisations rising beyond the NHS' capacity.

The surging statistics came as Professor Neil Ferguson — whose projections have spooked No10 into lockdowns before — called for curbs to be tightened by New Year on the back of his latest modelling of the mutant strain.

He told BBC 4's Today Programme hospitalisations could be overwhelmed by Christmas as Omicron cases rise in the next week with a 'very large epidemic underway'. He added: 'The level of protection against severe disease is not perfect and the very large case numbers may still translate into very large numbers of hospitalisations.'

During the Sage meeting on Thursday, the experts backed a ban on indoor social contact and hospitality. In what could be a blow to Britons planning New Year parties, they want fresh measures to come in before January 1.

Well, look at the bright side. Instead of spending the day with yourself, you could be spending the day with your relatives.
But, mellowyellow has a good idea.
Not trying to be a downer here but those who are immune compromised and those unable to be vaccinated, since so many vaccinated people are getting Covid now even those who had the booster and are possibly walking around asymptomatic, that could be like Russian Roulette. 😄

I think you will find that mainly applies to England only, not the whole of the UK.

But you specifically referred your remarks to the UK, to which they do not apply, only to England
that's because that's what the media are saying today...''the UK''

UK should lock down BEFORE Christmas or it will be 'too late', warns SAGE adviser amid calls for a two-week ban on household mixing 'very soon' to stop Omicron Covid hospitalisations peaking at 3,000 a day and Cabinet is briefed by scientists

  • Revellers in Leeds, London and Birmingham pictured enjoying Christmas blowout amid Omicron fears
  • Hospitality bosses had warned ministers alarmist rhetoric on new mutant strain had hit consumer confidence
  • But pictures taken on Friday night showed the party spirit was alive and well across Britain's largest cities
  • Leaked SAGE minutes urge restrictions as two-week circuit breaker lockdown was mooted by ministers
  • CBI and other groups asked Rishi Sunak for emergency grants, VAT drop and 100% business relief for retail

That is a great idea.
I am always alone Christmas day and I go and visit one of our many National Parks knowing that there will be very few people there.
