See that's a flaw in the question: it doesn't make clear "unexpected to whom". Some of us are observant and also are well aware that not only is nature full of surprises, but human behaviors span a broad range from abominable and vicious to constructive and compassionate. Therefore few things happen that truly surprise suprise us."Natural" events....earthquakes, violent storms, etc., are always a potential risk for many parts of the country. However, the "big event" that is looming in the near future is likely another major spike in this Covid pandemic. I will not be surprised if we see some major problems in that arena by late January.
Things that might catch some off guard, are not unexpected to those with realistic perceptions of the world, who can concieve of both good and ill happenings.
