Any New Years Resolutions (NYR) or Don't You Make Them?

I'm debating whether or not to make any NYR or not. There are certainly things I need to improve on and work on as always it seems. Why can't I just be perfect? LOL Seems when one thing gets better another thing goes out of order. I'll try not to be too glum! Seems to be my frame of mind lately though, sorry.

Seems I have failed at many of my attempts at things this year. Guess I get another chance to start all over. The New Year seems like a good time to do that because the end of this year/beginning of next can be a launching pad for new ideas, new ways of doing things to get better results. My self discipline needs fine tuning...again...I also could just wait till I'm good and ready to make the necessary changes...if I don't die first..LOL

Any NYR for you or don't you bother?

I’ve started making daily resolutions to get up the NEXT day and do productive work around my house instead of watching TV. I resolved to watch TV only when I sit down for meals or retire to my bedroom at night. This morning I turned on the TV during my late breakfast and a one hour special was on Public Television about the Dalai Lama, and I decided that was worth watching for an hour and then I was hooked for several more hours on other TV programs. I want to resolve to work during the day, like I’ve done most of my life, but somehow age and infirmity have robbed me of the ambition to act.

No resolutions...take things as they come. This year starts off with some challenges. Misa is going back to work. (part time). I will be keeping the farm in order a lot more. Cooking, feeding the goats and chickens, and much more. I have a daily struggle with IBS and have got as healthy as possible so these challenges are welcome. It seems that ever since I was born there have been daily challenges. I have made new years resolutions...but they are much like "pronouncements", they can change in the blink of an eye. :)

I am very melancholy as Christmas passes and it appears you are also experiencing melancholy. An ancient Greek explanation of this is being in Hades. We must all go to Hades from time to time to get a sense of meaning, but we should not go without the help of the gods (concepts that help us resolve life problems). It is easy to get lost in Hades and that means experiencing mental disorders such as melancholy or depression. Right now I am looking for the golden thread, that will help me find my way out of Hades. That gives me hope that I can do that and considering New Year resolutions is like having a hold of that golden thread.

I feel like I failed here because all my thoughts revolved around political notions and this is not a forum for politics. I have soured on political thinking and hope I can do better here now. Like that seems to be a good new years resolution. To focus on our shared human experience without politics! I don't know if I can do that, but I am willing to give it a try.

I think Any time of year a person can make real changes...
I also think New years is NOT the time... people fail because they follow the crowd.

March approaches and media has some cute filler thing like X% failed already or are you still on track ?
I wish i had a dime for every time those excuses become well if X% did not make it how could I?
Any resolutions should be personal and the person holding you to it is YOU.
I do not think in many cases others help hold you accountable but often will HELP rationalizing why you can or should stop.

I love your whole post, @Vida May, particularly the bolded part. I'm about to embark on a New Year's resolution. They've worked for me before, it's how I quit smoking. However, this new attempt is to do something that has made me depressed in the past, yet It's something I really need to do and I think if I can make it through the first month I'll be okay.

I needed to be reminded that there is help -- through prayer or meditation or whichever way we find our golden thread. Thank you and best of luck to you.

You lift us with a mystery. I am curious about what you are up to but I have heard, sometimes talking about something takes the power out of it, like telling plans to write a book, takes all the energy out of actually doing that. It sounds like you want to change something big and that could mean guided mediation could be beneficial in exploring your inner ties to why whatever it is, is in your life and releasing those ties.

I love mythology. I am now thinking of our lives like fabric that is woven. Like when we are knitting a sweater and notice several rows down we made a mistake. If it is a complicated pattern, it can be a real bugger to unravel everything and weave/knit the new sweater without the imperfection.

If you can give up cigarettes, you can do anything. I used to be a smoker too.
