egendary actress and activist Jane Fonda is ringing in her 84th birthday on Dec. 21, 2021. In her lifetime she has achieved many honors, including two Oscars for best actress, the Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille Award and an Emmy. The "Grace and Frankie" actress has captivated audiences for decades while also making her voice heard as an activist for change.

I was waiting on that one. What if, for one time only, we put anger & resentment on the back burner?

Yea, some people never understood Vietnam and just react emotionally to the hate propaganda. People remember emotions but apparently have trouble grasping facts.
I love Jane Fonda in Klute with Donald Sutherland along with many of her other movies. I bet the same people who don't like her because of Vietnam, are supporters of the instigator of the January 6th attempted coup.
Happy Birthday, Jane! Wishing you many more!
@Nosy Bee-54 , yes, that would be a safe bet. I am a Vietnam veteran, my Vietnam service affected my whole life and world view. I know what Jane Fonda actually did, and why. She was accused by the haters of jeopardizing American lives, I know different: she saved untold numbers of American and Vietnamese lives with her efforts to end a war that should never have been.

Sigh. I didn't want to get into this, but I can't take it. Sure, the U.S. shouldn't have been in Vietnam, but don't assume all the soldiers that went volunteered for the job and therefore should be blamed for whatever happened to them. Remember the draft? Remember young men watching as the countdown to their time drew near? I saw lines of draftees at the airport at the time; these guys looked to be just out of high school.

Secondly, Jane Fonda was allowed to see our prisoners of war in Hanoi. Remember that these guys were being tortured? They trustingly handed her slips of paper that would identify them — and she turned around and handed those to the Viet Cong with her. I consider this traitorous and extremely cruel.

Have a look at some of these photos of Jane in Hanoi with the Viet Cong. There she is, joking around with them. You could say she "had to", but her actions in betraying our guys speak louder than words.

So, no, sorry; I'm no fan.

Realistically, she could have done that by demonstrating here rather than betraying our prisoner of war guys in Vietnam. Right?

Look at the pictures of her in Vietnam; even the Viet Cong weren't exactly friendly to her.

Not me. That's gluing two disparate incidents together. Not sure what the one has to do with the other.

I spent 31/2 yrs in Vietnam. May go back some day. Many Americans retire there now. Inexpensive, and wonderful people when their not shooting at you. I really can't blame them after the way we screwed them over after WW2, and sold them out to the french, after they had done so much to help us against the Japanese. Mike

She should retire to Vietnam.

Never got the attraction of Jane, some how she just never clicked with me.
Don't you remember Hanoi Jane during Viet Nam?
Yes, I do all too well. Being antiwar is ok, its part of living in a democracy. On the other hand there is no doubt she crossed the line, giving aid and comfort to the enemy, someone our troops were fighting, and dying against. Not acceptable no matter your politics. However that was long ago, and I think she regrets it now. She was young and foolish at the time. This is probably the reason she never "clicked" with me...

Understood. I've heard her before where she kind of danced around the issues. In the above, she's more direct, but to be honest, I'm not sure she's telling the truth given what came before. But, whatever ...

I was going to add that, even now, she seems to be pointing fingers elsewhere. Sad person.
