Good Old Days - Which Era Would You Choose?

The world needs more love
Many have lost hope in the future and look longingly at days gone by. The past often seems to be kinder, gentler and more more romantic. If you could have lived in a different era which would you choose and why?
 
If I could eliminate school the 50s would be my choice.
Endless carefree days with all my loved ones still here.
Trailing behind my dad and grandpa as they worked around the house and yard and being with my mom and grandma as they expertly went about their daily household chores.
Time stood still back then and it was the little things that mattered.
Sitting outside in the evening with the grownups discussing not much more than the weather or how the garden was growing until they thought the house had cooled off enough to go in and get a good night sleep.

As you said "if you could have lived in a different era," I take that to mean a time in the past when I/we weren't yet alive... is that accurate?
If so, I wouldn't want any of the past, because as lousy as things are these days I certainly would not have wanted to live in a period of time when women, children, and minorities weren't even considered people and had no rights.
 
As an American, I would almost choose the 1980's. We had enough technology to make life somewhat easy (and interesting), yet not what I see as almost destructive technological forces in cell phones glued to peoples ears at all times, instant pornography that destroys normal relationships, and a constant need to keep updating, updating, and updating. Also, we no longer had a draft and had no major wars. Folks were happy to have an old car and a 3 br modest ranch home with 1 bathroom back then.

I think if one actually had to live in the late 1800's (or other older time) and contend with a lack of electricity, good plumbing, easy transportation, and available food, one would probably think twice.

If I could choose a time-frame within my own lifetime, I'd agree with you- 1980s.
 
As others have said, the 1980s for me too. (I just wish I had been younger during the 80s! 😄 ) Most of the entire past--especially the 1950s, ugh!--leaves me cold, sounds awful, and the 50s were awful for me.
 
Despite the fact that I wasn't born for half of it, and can barely remember the latter part when I was born... I'd choose the 50's through the early 60's.. simply because people were nicer then, people were polite, there was no street drugs to talk of... People who have never visited the UK, always seem to be under the impression that we still live in the 50's, with twee houses, miss marple, and men who remove their hats for women.. couldn't be further from the truth...... and it's a pity we don't...

The 1970's I guess. I had the service behind me as well as college, so it was time to go out and make money and sow some wild oats. I was in my prime.
 
No going back for me. My earlier decades were either sad, saw me being sickly or they were stressful. Certainly wouldn't want to go back to slavery time and even the 60's and 70's were not kind to people of color. Things still aren't right to tell the truth. Plus, if I went back to the late 1600's, I may have been put on trial as a witch. I like the modern conveniences so I'll stay in the 21st cenury.
 
I was just thinking about this. The damn kitchen sink is starting to drain too slow. It's just one more thing to worry about. I was thinking-wouldn't it be nice if we were still hunter gatherers. No taxes, no government, no bills. no sinks. I'm an old geezer, I'd probably lay on a nice fur bed, all day long, watching others work. And wondering which of my twelve wives would rub my back. I could handle that.
 
50's. Even though I went into the Army I learned a lot of things. The music was great. Never had to lock your house or car. even left keys in the car. Gas was 22¢ a gallon. I bought a 57 Ford Convertible with a police interceptor engine with two 4 barrel carbs for $2,500.00 cash.

Lots of drive-in theaters & eating places. If people got mad they settled it with fistfights or just walk away. Then we're back friends in half-hour. No one shot anyone.
 
If I could go back and stick around in the same condition, it would be about 2015. Retired, fit, travelling often and we were both healthy.
