Which is more important to you?

Financial independence.

“Money can’t buy happiness, but it does quiet the nerves.” - Joe Louis
I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. But without freedom there's no point in even being alive because you're just a slave and so many wars have been fought to free slaves and serfs throughout history.

New audience or not my answer remains freedom once again. Perhaps more so now than last time. :giggle:

i'm going off on a tangent here--mostly because to me that's like asking which of my physical organs is most important: brain, heart, lungs, etc. Without the consciousness that resides in the brain they're all pretty meaningless to me and like those physical organs they work together to enhance this life here/now. Having optimum (not perfect, just the best one can manage all things considered) levels/amounts of each of the things on the list in one's life is necessary to the overall quality of life.

And while i take actions to maintain my optimum 'health' (both physically and mentally/emotionally) and am greatly annoyed by the limits my aging body is now putting on me, I have to question the idea that without 'health' one cannot enjoy any other aspect of life. i have known people with chronic, in some cases congenital, health impairments (deaf, blind, Cerebral Palsy, dwarfism, missing or non-functional limbs) and recently read about people with even more severe issues (like a young woman who has only had one hemisphere of her brain since birth--an in utero stroke destroyed her left one) that nonetheless manage to not just function but to find the good and some enjoyment of this life.

If you've read this far, apologies for the disruption...but this is how my brain works, i often have totally different perspectives on seemingly simple topics than the majority. And of course, we each get to decide what is most important to us. But there was no 'none of the above' option on this survey.

I would respectfully suggest that the original question is a false dichotomy.
I would respectfully guess you may be right there, but argue some latitude might be necessary, afterall a straight choice saying "Would you rather be rich or poor"?, wouldn't generate much of a discussion would it, (though I appreciate your giving me an excuse for my waffly post at the start! :) )

Oh for Pete sake! It's just a simple question! No divisive intent! Lighten up!
You think this might be some evil plot, a stratagem I will sell to Communist adversaries?
What if I asked your favorite color? Would you attack me for that as well?

I would respectfully suggest that you should lighten up. Just because a person posts a question on this site does not obligate the rest of us to respond in a way that you deem appropriate. There is no cynicism involved. On another thread about whether all people could agree on anything, the general consensus was not (although some people disagreed with that!).
Obviously all of the things that you list are all important (except I would suggest that money is just a means to an end, unless you are broke and have other people dependent on you), at different times in our lives and situations--as most of us are older (I'm 76), it appears that many of the answers are about health.

Well, The three of you (or four of you)
OK.
Grahamg, I'm sorry. I KNOW you are speaking the English language, but I read all your posts at least twice and I feel like I'm reading Chinese!
I don't understand your wordage at all!

You're not the first to say that believe me, (the then Mrs grahamg saying I spoke in riddles!), however I just put it down to my "trying too hard" to express myself, for all kinds of reasons! :)

Btw "Sufferin Succotash" was the Looney Tunes expression I tried to spell earlier! :) )

@Gaer, thank you for starting a fun thread. I started one re: the categories of various members in SF (asking people to think about which categories they may fall into) and it quickly went south. I am serious about serious topics, but I don't get overheated about something that is simply meant to provoke thought. Again, thank you!
