What's The Worst Forum You Have Ever Been On?

Worst....there is a heavily overmoderated seniors forum still running.Think bees-or look two posts above.
i am on it...lying low after another run in with the moderators.
Then there was relate to that ....lots of nice people there but an owner with a dislike of anyone who disagreed with her and moderators who enforced forum rules with an iron fist.
i left under a cloud. It closed after most of its members left...
yep the bold..is the worst one for terrible moderation.... absolutely appalling. They get involved with the infighting, they choose their favourites, and back them even when they're in the wrong... , they suspend people right and left for the smallest infractions.. absolutely awful . I was a member there for years and barely ever posted , aside from the games because of it... and now I don't post there at all, haven't for a couple of years

Holy Crow, that's Isa Moskowitz you're talking about. When I was vegan I and all her cookbooks. I had no idea though, that there was a forum and how sad that the vegans there were butt wipes.
One would think vegans would be a peaceful, inclusive, fuzzy, accepting crowd and I was shocked when I found out that wasn't the case, at least from my personal experience.
I'm sorry you went through that and glad the site is shut down.
Sure was Medusa! Yes this has been some of my experience with vegans also. I am sorry you experienced this. Jerks can be everywhere. I will say Isa Moskowitz did come to my defense herself on the forum. She was diplomatic about it but once she intervened, those bullies quit immediately. Not another nasty word on the screen from them. I do think that some of the behavior on that forum, including the attacks and cliques, may be one reason she shut it down.

I too have some of her cookbooks. I wanted the big holiday cookbook but after my experience on that forum I didn't want to buy it new. Last year at Goodwill I found a like new copy of it for $2.99. I was thrilled. I've noted her cupcake cookbook there too but I have it. I'm looking for the pie one now used.

This is the only forum that I go on and I have no complaints. People here are seniors, have interesting things to say and I often learn something. They don't even "attack" me when I have a bit of a rebel or non politically correct ideas. I limit my computer time so have no need to look for other forums. Now, if you were talking about news sites then I would have a lot of negative complaining to do but this forum. NADA!

I'm so glad to learn that Isa shut down the nastiness as it would have really bummed me out to learn my favorite vegan cooking guru was a creep. Whew!
Nice find on the book. :)

From the cupcakes book, when we were vegans, my then young son's favorites where "Sexy Low-Fat Vanilla Cupcakes." -- He was a kid and I think he just like saying the name. LOL

This is from another book (The Ultimate UnCheese Cookbook) and I tweaked the recipe so much I could call it mine at this point, but I still make Vegan Mac & Cheese sometimes because it's freaking delicious. -- Well, before my system got super delicate. Anyway, my kids used to say that stuff was like "crack."

I don't have the Holiday Cookbook as I'm no longer vegan, but now that I know it exists... I want it. 😵

The worst for me was AARP was there 5 yrs.It started out fine, but trying to get a response from the adminstrators was extremely frustrating.,never replied in a timely manner. In the 2nd yr, they decided to change the format which upset long time posters, many left. After awhile,it became boring,,I left and came here in '17,what a welcome change
I tried AARP too. Lasted three weeks.

the thing is tho'...the forums most of us are referring to.. are also for seniors. Some of those people are worse than mean children in a playground.. it's just ridiculous that people who are fully grown can form cliques just to be abusive and nasty in a gang...

Q
OK I could mention a few.. but they're all still running so I better not.... but yes Cliques and personal attacks on other members were a major factor in them being dreadful places..as well as Mods who took sides with the cliques..
Bingo! I have been on several legal Q&A forums over the years, here is one example. This chick who claimed to be a lawyer who clearly was not attacked me the 1st day I posted.

Q from asker: I am in florida, I pleaded guilty to X, I want to change my plea, can I?
Me: Yes it is possible to withdraw a guilty plea, consult counsel.
Her response: Where do you get this stuff?
Me: I thought you said you were a lawyer?
Her: I am!
Me: Then it should be easily verified.
Being true meant nothing, the Clique still supported her acting like I was causing trouble. She had tons of negative comments on her profile, and of course it was the "I tell it like it is, you did not hear what you wanted to hear, so you attack me". I got nothing but hassle from the cliquers. The site no longer exists.

Another site, the stupid owner, an Attorney, put some ignorant jerk chick in charge as a moderator. Anyone who disagreed with her was banned. Time and time again. The site is still online, but no longer active.

One site, certain posters questioned every answer I posted, constant harassment. I called one a Jerk and got banned for 6 months, yet he was the harasser. When I rejoined after the ban under another name, well, you know, same crap. One poster kept reporting my posts for no reason but to be a jack ass. Since you had to give a reason why you were reporting it, I sure wonder what he put down, as the pig moderator did delete them. These Were proper legal responses, not smart A answers. He was a regular for over 10 years and answered a lot of questions, most very stupidly, so he was too important to ban. The main thing about those forums, is they rely on volunteers to answer, even if you are a smart A, does not matter. That jerk moderator wanted to keep his job, and if he ticked off the regulars and they left, so might the message board.

I've been on several websites that fit the category of worst of all time. All of them having right wing biases which reflect Hitlerian outlooks on life and politics. A great many of them professing Christian. If you post the truth, back it up with facts, and try to reason with these half wits, they gang up on you, call you all manner of epithets, pretend that you are a communist, and then act as if they are god's holy children and doing the world and the known universe a great favor by censoring you. Some even make death threats with the blessings of the forum admins.

Bunch of phonies and antichrists.
I briefly visited one seniors oriented forum that was full of crazies, and evident that the admin was in with them...don't recall the name but haven't bothered to go back there.
I have frequented numerous forums since 2000, mostly computer forums as electronics is my main hobby. I created and admin'd a forum as a landing place for members of a going defunct forum ran by PC Club. That forum was pretty quiet, I didn't allow politics, most of my efforts were removing spammers. When the hosting company was sold(or went of of business, I forget) I got to download the database, in case I wanted to continue on.

@Medusa Was the uncheese cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak? I have that one but the mac and cheese uses cashews and my stomach has issues with most nuts except smooth peanutbutter. I've found some cheese sauce recipes on Youtube made with potatoes, carrots and of coarse nutritional yeast and want to try them.

Another forum I find irritating is the one for Ravelry. The knit, crochet and weaving site for those not familiar. I'm there mainly for free patterns and they have a group dedicated to finding free patterns.

Some people get super woke and one poster (not a moderator) lectured some poor woman who was looking for a pattern booklet that is out of print. Harassed her about copyright laws. Went on and on. Wasn't her damn issue and the poor person didn't even ask someone for a copy, just wanted to find the original booklet.

I want to say, "yes," because I've looked it up on Amazon and the cover looks very familiar, however, the recipe I started with, from that book, did not include cashews, as I recall.

If you like, I can send you my recipe for Vegan Mac & Cheese. :) - No Cashews.

The worst forums are the ones that allow personal attacks. Some people like that kind of thing. We've seen people join SFs who want to be able to insult others and they don't last long because the admins don't allow it here. Those kinds of people are incapable of engaging in honest dialogue or debate or discussion so they resort to insults. That's all they know how to do. It's pathetic.

@FastTrax o_Oo_O:( Just WTF? I never heard of that site. And I'm glad I didn't. Appears now closed. Wow!

It was a veritable troll, flame and spam paradise. Even threads and post inciting members to commit violent crimes against others were never
even locked, closed or removed. After a year or two, active moderation just plain collapsed. Any attempt at key word software moderation or multiple reports the post were not removed and the violators well knew it. Shadow banning became a joke because a rather large cadre of certain members who knew each other posted several times a day and knew when they were shadow banned usually within a couple of hours. Many of these nefarious members in questionable standing there were members in good standing in the now defunct S****F***T forum and literally terrorized members on the Yahoo forums also especially the questions forum and the Dear Abbey forum. Hackers, IP hiders and VPN's were the word of the day. NUTS.

The worst imo that I visited several times before freely leaving was one I forgot the name of! It was for people who are either atheists or agnostics. Some of them were some of the rudest folks I've run across on the internet. I chose to leave that mess behind!

I am an active member of a camping / caravanning site that is pretty good. However the owner / moderator is very strict and will remove posts without explanation that don't meet with his personal approval. So, your post might just disappear and you have no idea why. Any posts questioning this are removed too.

Along the coast from me is the village of Portsoy (where the remake of Whisky Galore was filmed). Near the harbour is 'The Salmon bothy' - a large historical building connected to the fishing industry and containing a small museum. One exhibit that has appeared on TV, is a flotation buoy made from dog skin, covered in 'Stockholm tar'. When I mentioned this in a post, it was immediately removed. Re-posting without reference to the buoy was OK. Obviously, moderation is very personal. Other posters have experienced similar censorship.

I have been on many different forums over the years. Not any other senior one though. The worst ones that I have left or fake book groups that I have been on are, I kid you not.........rabbit ones! Those people bully others instantly on seeing that you do not follow care of your rabbit as they do. Get very mean and cruel to others. I see that happen to someone and I am gone. Yes, many times I do not agree with how someone else cares for their pet bunny, but if you are nice to them, they will return and maybe start changing the way they are doing things just by reading what others do. Instead they are out the door.........

I haven't been on many forums but the ones I found least enjoyable were those centred around a shared interest. There always seemed to be various groups from the self-appointed experts down to the beginners. I think the worst for this was a photography forum I joined, the posturing was off the scale. At first I found the egotism funny but, it quickly became boring.

I joined my first forum many years ago. It didn't take very long before I got slapped around and dog piled on.
So that was it until I found this one. And although I don't post a lot, I do enjoy dropping in and catching up with whats going on along with having my morning coffee.. :coffee::)

Oops, I forgot to answer the thread topic.. It was a musicians forum.

Gransnet....such narrow-mindedness. It's impossible to discuss anything on that site, especially when one of the mods has homed in on you. I tried mumsnet but the bad language put me off. People can express themselves without resorting to gutter tongue.
