We're clearly not, but this play on American ignorance is pretty funny. (Sorry in advance, HollyDolly!)
No need to apologise, and no need for me to complain or defend my country, not least because of the extent to which our comedians ridicule, (yes "ridicule", not " bully" for whoever it is thinks they're the same thing!), the USA whenever they get the chance. We're clearly not, but this play on American ignorance is pretty funny. (Sorry in advance, HollyDolly!)
that's unfortunately true in lots of cases...Now that is a provocative statement!! What worries me is that so many British people believe that it is true and do their utmost to copy America in everything.....which is why our country is now on a downward slope to the gutter.
"Marriage on the rocks next do you think"?We in the Commonwealth must stick together,I can't figure why any Brit would think the USA is better than the UK. It hasn't been all beer and skittles for Prince Harry. (I heard on the grapevine he is getting homesick, or is it because his money tree has bit the dust.)
Let me respond as the OP that this was not a statement but simply meant as comedy and certainly not meant for you to criticize the US for taking the UK in a "downward slope to the gutter". Did you watch the video? If anything, it paints the UK in a good light. Now that is a provocative statement!! What worries me is that so many British people believe that it is true and do their utmost to copy America in everything.....which is why our country is now on a downward slope to the gutter.
King Baby is a funny guy, I've posted some of his stand up here a long time ago. We're clearly not, but this play on American ignorance is pretty funny. (Sorry in advance, HollyDolly!)
I'm sorry it's taken such a turn too, very unwarranted. It was a lighthearted clip, it wasn't nasty or insulting. Geez, people need to lighten up here.Overall, just very disappointed in the direction this thread has taken and sorry I ever posted the video.![]()
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing any animosity in this thread...I'm sorry it's taken such a turn too, very unwarranted. It was a lighthearted clip, it wasn't nasty or insulting. Geez, people need to lighten up here.![]()
No animosity here?Maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing any animosity in this thread...
I suppose we're all a little conceited about our country, and whether its special, though I agree there are a great many others I'm sure are equally as good, if somewhat different! Why does one country have to be better than the other? Why can't each be appreciated for what it is?
Not always true I'm afraid, (plenty of times I fly off the handle, over my pet subject at least!).You are frequently the voice of reason, @grahamg, and it is appreciated.
Perhaps some of us more than we maybe should is the point though isn't it, and I'd guess it counts against us/them more often than we'd like it to!Don't we all?
I agree, I doubt many Brits would want to live in the USA.. except the young who are enamoured with all things bright and shiny American that they see on the Internet...the majority of grown ups who've carried out their research who want to migrate outside of Europe tend more so to choose Australia, NZ, & Canada...We in the Commonwealth must stick together,I can't figure why any Brit would think the USA is better than the UK. It hasn't been all beer and skittles for Prince Harry. (I heard on the grapevine he is getting homesick, or is it because his money tree has bit the dust.)
aww I didn't even think of that being derogatory tbh ... I just saw it as a personal expression by Lavinia, so the latter part of the sentence barely registered tbh.... sorry that it upset you ....No animosity here?
