Jim Gaffigan... Why America is Better than the UK

We're clearly not, but this play on American ignorance is pretty funny. (Sorry in advance, HollyDolly!)

No need to apologise, and no need for me to complain or defend my country, not least because of the extent to which our comedians ridicule, (yes "ridicule", not " bully" for whoever it is thinks they're the same thing!), the USA whenever they get the chance.

I believe its affectionate humour though, as this example of someone ridiculing the UK feels, (and we totally deserve it all in !y view!). :)

Now that is a provocative statement!! What worries me is that so many British people believe that it is true and do their utmost to copy America in everything.....which is why our country is now on a downward slope to the gutter.

We in the Commonwealth must stick together, ;)I can't figure why any Brit would think the USA is better than the UK. It hasn't been all beer and skittles for Prince Harry. (I heard on the grapevine he is getting homesick, or is it because his money tree has bit the dust.)

"Marriage on the rocks next do you think"? :(

Let me respond as the OP that this was not a statement but simply meant as comedy and certainly not meant for you to criticize the US for taking the UK in a "downward slope to the gutter". Did you watch the video? If anything, it paints the UK in a good light.

Yes, we definitely have our issues in the US, but were you influenced by the US to vote for Brexit or was Boris Johnson influenced by the US to go out partying with his friends while your country was in lockdown? I think not.

I like to consider myself a decent person, but I won't stand idly by while my country is disparaged. You hit a nerve there. Sorry you have such a warped view of the US. :(

Do not worry about it deseag. No where is quite ike France
Longue vie Ă  la France!!
But I am also an American citizen, and if I were not married to a Frenchman, I would definitely marry an American. I find British men not romantic!

The Brits have never quite forgiven Mrs Simpson for stealing their love sick king

To ask which is better the US or the UK is kind of like asking if red is better than blue. Not a useful question.

I have been to the UK several times on business, but never as a tourist so I suppose my experience is different from most US visitors. I liked it and would go back if I ever get the chance. However I prefer living here, just because I grew up here and it feels comfortable.

I have visited many countries and have a similar feeling about most, however they do speak English in the UK, a plus for me!

I agree, I doubt many Brits would want to live in the USA.. except the young who are enamoured with all things bright and shiny American that they see on the Internet...the majority of grown ups who've carried out their research who want to migrate outside of Europe tend more so to choose Australia, NZ, & Canada...

No animosity here?

aww I didn't even think of that being derogatory tbh ... I just saw it as a personal expression by Lavinia, so the latter part of the sentence barely registered tbh.... sorry that it upset you .... :(....however I have to say I once asked on the forum, a simple question about America.. I was torn to ribbons..I was told how dare I attack the USA.. how dare I..blah , blah, blah.... on and on, ... I was stunned, it was a simple question that only Americans could answer so that's why I asked it here.. but yet the sensitivity was off the scale...

Funny clip :)

I have been to New York several times and always found New Yorkers to be generous, friendly and very funny. Great memories.

Anyone from Jersey City? I still have my matchbooks from The Iron Monkey
