Thank you, @hollydolly. I've been to the UK many times and love it there. I guess we in the US have been through a lot lately, just like you in the UK, so there is increased sensitivity these days. :( Sorry if it seemed I overreacted. I love my friends in the UK!

Mmmmmm, maybe you're right, not quite so bad when I listened to it again, and the guy could sing okay, was obviously well dressed up in royal fashion, but some of the lyrics, and infilling with da da da's etc. not so great don't you think, (sometimes humour shouldn't be scrutinised too much though I admit! :) ).

I think Brits may be responsible for their own "downward slope to the gutter". But I understand what Lavinia refers to- the ever present US of A.
I remember a TV show about finding an indigenous people in some remote part of the world. that doesn't even get sun light. They are standing with their spears and bows & arrows. And they were wearing "New York Yankees" tee shirts. There are McDonalds in every nation on earth. There's American TV shows, American singers, American movies, American- the list goes on and on. How many people on the planet are wearing tee shirts with US sports logos? A friend showed me one of the 'dating' sites. There was a Russian woman, in Moscow, sitting in front of a huge mural of the Empire State Building.

But with cut and paste it's so easy! Also, this is a shocking reminder to me of how little of the world I've really seen. Has anyone ever been to Kyrgyzstan? Vanuatu?
 
There used to be a MacDonalds' in Iceland.... but high import prices meant that they had to close the stores.

there's no Starbucks and no Casinos

Did you know there is KFC... tho'.. and Taco Bell ..& TGIF

Did you know beer was banned in Iceland until 1989.... yet it's a super popular place for Brits to go on holiday....

I've only been in the airport on layovers. My wife hates the very idea of cold weather so if I go it will have to be solo. Same thing with Northern Scotland and the various isles up there.
