Man curses, shouts racist remarks and throws smoothie at workers

Bad behavior has been normalized. Luckily, there are still consequences.
When politicians not only decided it was clever and acceptable to make fun of challenges faced by the disabled, but their supporters found it was amusing, some of our societal norms took an extreme left turn.

Incidents of nasty, violent, uncontrolled behavior in stores, airplanes, airports, parks and other public spaces have skyrocketed in the past several years. Sad and scary.

Your expectation that Jewish people should be above the fray of racist and/or stupid behavior.............On authority I must deter you from that notion.
I come from German Jewish ancestry, so it was in no means meant as an insult and I welcome and accept your opinion. (y)

How does someone who is a Merrill Lynch financial advisor stoop to this level? What is wrong with the people in this country? He is yelling and disparaging teenagers when his son is 17? Fired by his firm, deservedly.

Like my favorite lawyer, Scott Reisch, always says, "There are those who are humble and there are those about to be humbled."
It is karma or retribution at its finest. It comes to us all sooner or later, in my opinion. ;)

What this video indicates is that everybody has a cell phone and every action can be recorded. I don't think people are behaving much differently now than they were 5 or 10 or 20 years ago.
I agree. You sneeze, and Facebook has 4 new videos posted in 12 nanoseconds, with 15,865 "likes", 22,754 "dislikes". It's getting harder and harder to be an unknown jackass.

Right at the start of the video there was discussion about the father’s saying not to put peanut butter in the drink. Having a step grandchild with extreme peanut allergies, no matter the place, which there weren’t many, the discussion was clear about the allergy. Red Robin was one of the very few places he could go to eat out. Since his reaction was so swift, sticking a finger into the food was a quick test.

Just wanted to point out that this is one person.
I've seen several reports/vidoes of this type of thing happening. Racists have felt more empowered over the past few years and they are coming out of the woodwork like angry termites. It's disheartening, disgraceful and a blemish on our country.

@dseag2 What kills me about these idiots is that they don't seem to realize that everything is being recorded these days and that when found out they will face consequences! They say crime makes ya stupid...well so does racism apparently.

I think in the Court of Social Media only one version is allowed .....

Yes this person was totally out of control but if son had a serious reaction i can see a parent losing it.
I do think people should be more aware then they obviously are about how anyone can record you.
i have seen these posted without context.
The reality is more each day seem to not be able to control their anger ..... perhaps a problem of the attitude just let it out or more likely after not saying things it builds up and one small thing is blown WAY up.

I agree if my child had any allergy i would not trust any place with high potential for cross contamination
as a busy place like starbucks for example jut rinse the blenders in between use.
The way to handle that would be to ask to speak to the manager, not cursing people out and hurling racist remarks. My husband was served bacon in a sandwich at burger king that should not have contained bacon. We don't eat pork and it makes us sick. After he bit into the sandwich and was visibly ill, did I curse at the who served me the burger? No. I don't know if that's the person who made it. Can someone who's not a manager properly handle the situation, especially a teenager, probably not. I spoke with the manager who was very apologetic and the situation was handled so that we were satisfied and so that it probably would not happen again with someone else.

I think he wanted to flex his muscles because he thinks he's a big shot and denigrating someone else is how he chose to do it. Not a good role model for his or anyone else's child. And what did it solve? More importantly, what did it cause? It caused his racist, dumb ass to lose his job and be blasted all over social media as a racist pig. Bet his son is real proud.

I managed 3 pizza parlors (at once) for several years and the FIRST thing I taught every new employee was Exceptional Customer Service. It's obvious that few businesses do that these days.

The kids at the counter should have 1) apologized sincerely, 2) asked the gentleman sympathetically "What can we do to help?", 3) get ahold of the most adult manager available immediately, 4) refund the man's entire purchase, and, if necessary 5) apologize again and politely show the man to a table where he can talk to the manager.

A free lunch or whatever and some kind words beat a crude argument and a lawsuit every time.

I saw no sympathy from those kids, though. That guy got a "what's yer problem" attitude and "don't know who" excuse. Maybe we wouldn't have had to find out what a racist SOB that guy is if the workers would've handled things properly. Gotta blame their manager for that, though.

I agree that some young people are not properly trained in these types of positions but....Did he even give them a chance to apologize?! Do you apologize to someone who's screaming at you?

From the description of what happened, this guy was not merely guilty of "bad behavior." That, to me, would suggest something like shouting, cursing, needlessly insulting someone, etc. This was a description of physical assault.

I think he probably felt guilty (and scared) that his own stupidity could have killed his child, and had to let it out on someone. The girl yelling back at him was acting like a child, but then, she practically was still a child. I don't understand where the "racial insult" part came in, since they were both white. I couldn't understand a lot of the words either one of them used, as their shouting probably exceeded the cellphone's ability to record. All that came through was a lot of yelling and anger on both sides.

I might agree with you under different circumstances, @Murrmurr, but that guy came in with guns blazing. He was out of control from the get-to, cursing and demanding to know who made his kid's smoothie. An apology, refund or free lunch would have done nothing. Clearly there was no manager on the premises, not that it would have mattered much.

I've had unhinged customers like him. The best I could do was try to not get sucked in, and hope they'd leave quickly. Absolutely nothing appeases someone that unhinged. Training or no training, it's a rare adult (never mind teenager) who can calm a raging 48 year old man who's already thrown something at you.

@Sunny, I agree that he was likely angry with himself and feeling guilty for his own irresponsibility as a parent. From what I've heard and read, he requested the smoothie (which normally contains peanut butter) be made without PB, but didn't state that it was due to a peanut allergy.

A description of the incident by
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loc...racist-tirade-over-smoothie-cops-say/3509837/

"A Connecticut man in a rage over the inadvertent use of peanuts in a smoothie went on a threatening, racist tirade against a shop's young employees, leading to his arrest, Fairfield police said.

James Iannazzo, 48, of Fairfield, faces charges of intimidation based on bias, breach of peace and criminal trespass.

According to police, Iannazzo purchased a smoothie at Robeks on Black Rock Turnpike about 1 p.m. Saturday. Roughly 30 minutes later, police say he called 911 from his home for a child having an allergic reaction. The child was taken to a local hospital.

A few minutes later, Iannazzo returned to the Robeks location and, police say, yelled at employees and demanded to know who had caused his child to have an allergic reaction by putting peanuts in the smoothie.

When employees couldn't answer, cops say Iannazzo became irate, yelling vulgarly, throwing a drink at one employee and questioning her immigration status. Cops say he was asked to leave and refused, even attempting to open a locked "Employees Only" door to get behind the store's counter.

He subsequently left before police arrived, but was identified and turned himself in, saying he was upset about his son's allergic reaction. Store employees told cops that Iannazzo never mentioned an allergy, only asking that the peanut butter be left out of a drink.

A purported video of the dispute was posted to TikTok and quickly racked up more than 2 million views. In the video Iannazzo can clear be heard screaming epithets at the employees and demanding that they stop filming him.

Merrill Lynch, where Iannazzo worked as a financial advisor, said Sunday it acted quickly on learning of the incident.

"Our company does not tolerate behavior of this kind. We immediately investigated and have taken action. This individual is no longer employed at our firm," the company said in a statement.

Forbes ranked Iannazzo as one of Connecticut's top 25 high net worth wealth advisers last year.

An attorney for Iannazzo issued a statement on behalf of his client late Sunday.

"When faced with a dire situation for his son, Mr. Iannazzo's parental instinct kicked in and he acted out of anger and fear. He is not a racist individual and deeply regrets his statements and actions during a moment of extreme emotional stress," attorney Frank J. Riccio II said."

I’d be staying at the hospital with my child.

Considering his employer let him go, he may already have been known for his temper.
