Have you ever trusted someone and had that trust broken?

Have I trusted people only to have the trust broken?
Oh, Good Heavens YES!
I have always trusted people and given honor and respect to those who have proven they don't warrant respect.
and they have shown it through lies and theft.
So many times!
I'm not responsible for their behavior. Only my own. But, I am ( or have been) SO GULLABLE!
You always want to believe the best in people and it hurts when they let you down.

My trust in people has been broken pretty much every time I take my car in for a repair. They pretty much try to screw you every time — especially at tire stores. I have had some good experiences, though — surprisingly enough at a Walmart store, maybe because they don't personally profit from ripping you off.

I used to be a mechanic when I was in my 20s. I worked on construction equipment — not cars. But I worked with some people with a lot of integrity, so I guess I expect it from car mechanics. Actually, it's not the mechanics who screw you but the managers and owners.

I am wondering if it is better to not trust others and then they won't hurt us, or to put trust first with everyone so that a relationship can blossom. Maybe there is a way to do both?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to put trust first with everyone. As you said, most of us have had that trust broken. It’s better to have a neutral attitude and take things under advisement until you verify the truth. It’s not good to invest in things or people who may not be what they seem. A neutral attitude leaves space for a relationship to blossom or for the truth to come out.
