Back in 2008 I had a total right hip replacement. Now, my left hip has gone pretty wonky. So at my regular doctor visit today, she gave me a referral to a new ortho doc, as my previous one has since retired. Yay for me. She did give me a prescription for Meloxicam to hold me over. The pain does not make sleeping good, so she suggested I take it in the evening. Hope it works.

Sorry about your hip Marie. I hope this gets resolved quickly, one way or the other. I'm glad you got meds for now.

Meloxicam
I take Meloxicam, also called Mobic. My prescription is 15 mg/day.

I like it, and take it everyday.

As I understand it, Meloxicam is an anti-inflammatory relieving pain by reducing inflammation. Not a narcotic or anything like that. And not a particularly powerful drug. Hope it works for you.

However in my experience for sever pain something stronger might work better.

My doc did tell me it was non narcotic. She just gave me this to hold me until I can get into an ortho and see what they suggest until I can secedule a replacement surgery.

I hope the Meloxicam works, too. But, of course, it's only going to help you tolerate 1 symptom, so I'm glad you'll be seeing a specialist. If the new ortho doc wants to do another surgery, will you go ahead with it?

Best of luck, Marie!
Yes, I definately will schedule surgery if that is what they suggest. I have no issues with the right hip replacement.

Sorry to hear about your hip Marie, happy you have meds that will help until you see the specialist. Hoping whatever they decide for you works out well and you won't have to suffer any more with the pain. Please take care and keep us updated.

Oh dear Marie, I am sorry to read this, I don't think
that I would like to have a hip replaced, I will say a
small prayer and send you some healing.

Mike.

Thanks everyone for the support. Being that I am a veteran of hip replacement, at least I know what to expect.
I kind of wish I had places like this during the boredom of my last recovery. Just to have a place to visit and chat.

You will find I am not much of a whiner....but I plan to give updates on my recovery process when the time comes, as I think it would be helpful to others here going through joint replacement. I do know from the last one, I felt SO much better after my other hip was done.

If you want to, there are certain foods to avoid that cause inflammation. Consider avoiding all sugar including added sugars. This means avoiding most if not all carbs. All grains and wheat especially turns to sugar easily. If you like watch what Ken D. Berry MD says. He has a lot of good videos. Check with your doc before doing this or any new dietary change. Best of luck to you. ;)
