Language in shows today compared to back in the day!

I grew up around many who used cussing and thought no big deal but i too do NOT care for it in TV/ Movies .
I would rather have a real conversation ...
i also find it is used in cop shows that make the criminals over use it almost like a stereotype.

My Christian parents did not swear but as a kid, I had plenty of foul mouth friends. Being in the military 4 years, I was exposed to vast amounts of foulness including speech. Those that habitually swear often think they can control it in public at will around unknown others. However our brains don't work like that especially when emotional, excited, or inebriated and that is why even celebrities on live camera sometimes blurt profanities out embarrassing themselves and threatening their careers.

I hate being with a group at some upscale restaurant where an acquaintance with a loud voice accidentally embarrasses all by some crude language other groups also hear. Of course, restaurants don't want to hear such as it will give reason to some groups not returning. I also dislike how in this era it seems to be accepted as cool by so many. The best way to not have a swearing habit is to have enough self control to actively inhibit blurting such out in casual conversations that then becomes wired via neural plasticity to not to do so when emotional or excited.

One way in this era I've shielded myself for over 2 decades, is by being OTA without tv cable or streaming. For like reasons have no post smartphone social media accounts that is a cesspool.

let the masses speak in a reflection of their level of consciousness.
We can't change the wordage from other people.
We are responsible for our own thought, words, actions and personal
habits in connection to the physical world. We can only use dignity and
grace in what we send to the world., not in what is received.

very well put wish this was a mantra of the screen writers guild.

It is the same I find reading books, they use the F word a lot which does not really bother me but the C word, nasty. Why do well known authors have to stoop so low.
When David Herbert Lawrence wrote Lady Chatterley's Lover, he opened the flood gates on profanities. Here in the UK it became a cause célèbre.

The historical significance of the 1960 trial over the publication of Lady Chatterley's Lover cannot be overstated. The 1960 obscenity trial that lead to the acquittal of Penguin Books for publishing DH Lawrence's novel Lady Chatterley's Lover is a seminal case in British literary and social history. The verdict was an important victory for freedom of expression, and saw publishing in Britain become considerably more liberal.

Somehow, liberal and profanity have become one and the same. How did that happen?

Certainly, the meanings are now lost on them as they use these words to describe everything. They become words that sound "cool" and mature to youngins.

It’s never wrong to not swear; there’re definitely times when it is.

As much as I remind myself of this, it doesn’t mean I don’t say things in too reactive a way sometimes.

At home I swear at the news. If I’m reading something online and totally disagree with what is being said, rather than reply, I ususally just curse mentally.

Some swearing in movies fits the narrative. When that’s all it is, it’s not worth watching.

You have to admit the "F'" word just seems to fit so nicely when you need it. It's an extremely versatile word. I can assure you that everything in the Army is a F thing, When cars break down, it's always an F part, plus it's a F to fix.

I agree totally with fuzzy buddy, I would use it only in the house and usually when I was cross with DH. I don't use it anymore.
