Preps for no power in case Russia hacks grids

They have malware already in place in the US and a cyberattack could be their first move. Makes sense in that it would quickly erode public support for intervention by our leaders. My guess is the grid of any nation they expect retaliation from is at risk.

This won't be like Covid lines unless stores have backup generators and if they do, they may not be able to process credit cards if financial institutions are hacked as well.

It wouldn't surprise me....I think we'll buy another pack of TP next time we go to the store. What I expect to see is gas prices going up substantially in coming weeks....especially in Europe.

If Putin Really wants to "punish" the US and NATO, he needs to "hack" the cell phone grids. Can you imagine the chaos that half our people would feel if their cell phones suddenly ceased to work???

our fuel prices are already at an all time high.... and have been all through the covid pandemic...
 
Let’s not forget the US conceived stuxnet virus used against Iran. A virus using this attack vector can already be in place just awaiting a go command. Something like this could be very damaging to the grid taking considerable time to repair.

I don’t keep that much gas on hand for the generator if were out for a week or more.

Probably not in the middle of the invasion but who knows after. UK RUSI and US DARPA think it's likely at some point.
 
A few years ago, when I was traveling in Turkey, a large region of the country we were in experienced an unexplained several-hour total power outage. We heard speculation that it was Russian hacking because of an on-going dispute about an oil pipeline that wasn't going in Russia's favor. I'm not sure if this was proven or not, but there were a lot of experts on Turkish TV saying that.

If so, I've seen what they can do.
 
New Russian Malware:

It warned that a Russian state-backed hacker group known as Sandworm had developed a new type of malware called Cyclops Blink, which targets firewall devices made by the manufacturer Watchguard to protect computers against hacks.
