Choices. One should always remember

I think this is oversimplifying something profound. Yes, we are ultimately responsible for our actions, but psychologically may be driven in certain directions by the people and conditions we are told to ignore to make this statement fully true. Parents, relationships, work, the economy, one's environment DO factor into a person's life decisions for good or ill. Either we have no freedom of choice because of scars and constraints placed upon by the above or we are Herculean champions able to overcome even the most overwhelming obstacles. I think most of us are everyday folk and the more we are given and supported in life, the more we can accomplish. ☺️

Once one reaches full adulthood, I believe we do have to learn to take responsibility for our own actions. I say "full adulthood" because even though (eg:) in certain states 18 is the age of majority, many young people that age do not think, act or know how to do so like adults. They are still learning, growing and have so many life experiences to go through.

I've proven that too many times

......unfortunately

Well said. I agree that our choices are influenced by our environment, learning and past experiences and can sometimes result in bad ones. I do think that it is in how we choose to educate ourselves and learn from those experiences that help us make better choices later in life. And, hey...

It is how we choose to deal with it that makes all the difference.

Taking responsibility is obviously a good thing. But you're not the only cause of things happening to you; that's way too simplistic.

Say you're in the Ukraine, and Russia attacks. This is your fault how?
I complete agree with you, and I get teary-eyed during every news story I see about Ukraine.

With that said, there is nothing we can do about the cards we are dealt. It is how we respond that determines our destiny.

Some mothers and children have chosen to leave Ukraine for other countries. The men between 18 and 60 did not have the choice to leave Ukraine but they do have the choice to bear arms and defend their country or to go into underground bunkers.

Yes, life throws lots of curves at us. It is sometimes not all about having "freedom of choice" but the choices one makes under duress that makes the difference.

Again, I agree with you and I think the situation in Ukraine is so unfair.

The current trend is to look for someone else to blame for all our problems. So, yes, children need to be taught to take responsibility for themselves and the choices they make. Social media pressures people into doing things they perhaps wouldn't normally do. Here again, it's important to remind them to think twice before acting. People should think more about the consequences of their actions, (this applies to politicians as much as anyone)!

I would agree but not just current ... this has been going on for as long as i can remember...
many people do the same things over and over and expect different results ...
Never start a project because they are sure it will not work too late / maybe someone else told them they cannot so why try.......
Even something like weight loss .......cannot workout because it is raining .... too cold / too hot
Wont change jobs even if they are miserable in their current one ... convince themselves what if it is worse ....
i once worked for a company that actually played on this... telling them BS like "you probably will not have the benefits we have or it may be worse...."

People can make several bad choices then expect that to go away ... it follows you.... like your credit record .... a criminal record .... a driving record.... bad health choices.....
Then when one of these hold you back .... they blame the system not their own behavior.

Hopefully we learn from the (bad) choices we make. Unfortunately we sometimes make the same mistake twice...or thrice...
