think this would be a good card to hand every high school kid in the country.
Well said. I agree that our choices are influenced by our environment, learning and past experiences and can sometimes result in bad ones. I do think that it is in how we choose to educate ourselves and learn from those experiences that help us make better choices later in life. And, hey...I think this is oversimplifying something profound. Yes, we are ultimately responsible for our actions, but psychologically may be driven in certain directions by the people and conditions we are told to ignore to make this statement fully true. Parents, relationships, work, the economy, one's environment DO factor into a person's life decisions for good or ill. Either we have no freedom of choice because of scars and constraints placed upon by the above or we are Herculean champions able to overcome even the most overwhelming obstacles. I think most of us are everyday folk and the more we are given and supported in life, the more we can accomplish.![]()
I complete agree with you, and I get teary-eyed during every news story I see about Ukraine.Taking responsibility is obviously a good thing. But you're not the only cause of things happening to you; that's way too simplistic.
Say you're in the Ukraine, and Russia attacks. This is your fault how?
Life is full of "intersections". Deciding which "path" to take determines the life we lead.Yes, life throws lots of curves at us. It is sometimes not all about having "freedom of choice" but the choices one makes under duress that makes the difference.
Making bad choices happen. The choice to learn from those or ignore are part of life's learning lessons. The older you get hopefully the less bad choices you make.
I would agree but not just current ... this has been going on for as long as i can remember...The current trend is to look for someone else to blame for all our problems. So, yes, children need to be taught to take responsibility for themselves and the choices they make. Social media pressures people into doing things they perhaps wouldn't normally do. Here again, it's important to remind them to think twice before acting. People should think more about the consequences of their actions, (this applies to politicians as much as anyone)!
