National Barbie Day - March 9th

Mattel, maker of Barbie dolls, was not amused when the musical group "Aqua" released a song about Barbie. They sued, and fought all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, but lost. Here's the "Official Music Video." Note that this video has over a billion views.

Here's a sexier version by Toni V, which has only a quarter million views.

Barbie was marketed to girls, but us boys liked them too, although not in the same way our sisters did. The girls dressed them all different ways, but the boys blew them up with fire crackers, had "cut it in half" contests with pellet guns, and launched them through the air with sling shots and little home made catapults..

Are you familiar with the character, "Sid," from the movie "Toy Story?"

That's a fun song.

I never had a Barbie. When I was little Sindy was the hugely popular doll ( never had one of those either )... and followed quite a way behind by Tressy.. whose hair grew when you pressed her belly button. I was given a second hand Tressy but she was broken so her hair never grew, but I didn't mind because she was the only doll I ever had.. I was 9 years old,

...a couple of years later the biggest selling doll was Tiny Tears... I was too old by then, but my sister 3 years younger got one..
