Was that scary? Did you do it alone? I would like to do that, I've been sorting through some of my stuff and getting rid of some of it (long way to go tho), and I've been pricing long-stay hotels in a few cities in the US. But I get really scared about doing it.
Did you spend all the money from selling your house, did you find you still have enough to live on? I've been trying to figure out how much money I'd need to keep to be able to afford settling down eventually. I don't want to waste the opportunity to travel though. It would be a lot easier if I knew how long I will live.
Not a bit scary. I was looking forward to traveling and seeing new and exciting places.
Yes, I did it alone.
Yes, I spent nearly all of my money. I did hold back enough to set up house-keeping again after the money ran out.
First stop Central America and touring the ancient Maya ruins.
From there to Hawaii. Onward to Japan and Korea. Then on to Hong Kong. Most polite and friendly people I ever met.
When I finally reached The Philippines, a friend talked me into living there for 6 years.
Moved onward to Indonesia and Thailand. Good heavens, talk about hot .
The heat drove me out and I decided to spend time touring Egypt. Once again touring the ancient monuments.
I always travel alone and I never, ever book with a tour group. That way I can spend whatever length of time I wish at any particular site. I always get a chuckle watching the tour groups being herded about, like a herd of sheep. It took me 3 days to complete a tour of The Museum of Antiquities in Cairo. And two days on the Giza Plateau and the Sphinix and the Great Pyramids. I bought a separate ticket to go up inside the Great Pyramid. Each site you visit you must buy a ticket.
I then hired a driver to take me to Memphis and toured the Step Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and The Bent Pyramid and the Colossus of Rameses The Great.
From there I flew to Aswan and I booked a "floating hotel" for a tour down the Nile to Luxor with several stops along the way. Surprising how good the food was. Naturally, no pork was served. No bacon, sausage, ham etc.
At Luxor, I hired a young man to drive me where i wanted to go: The Valley Of The Kings, The Temples of Karnack, The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and numerous other sites. One day it sprinkled and the driver got all excited. He said that in his life he had never seen rain. He also asked me many questions about America. He asked me how many Muslims lived in America ? I replied, "About 1%. He freaked out. ha Ha
