Which Would You Rather Have?

I believe that if our tiny country was anywhere nearly as big and diverse as the USA..I would barely travel out of it to anywhere else... I'm pleased I've visited and in some cases worked and lived in many European countries, I learned a great deal about the history and the culture and the language of some not withstanding.. even bought property in one country... but now at this age I'd like to live in a country where there's vast areas to explore, like Canada, Australia, the Americas..., and never have to leave my own country..
From a show I watched a while ago. I'm paraphrasing.
A: Let's go to the beach this weekend.
B: To where? Miami?
A: No. Cornwall.
B: 😭😭😭

I chose to sell my house and everything in it, and take that money to travel the world. The money lasted until 2011
Was that scary? Did you do it alone? I would like to do that, I've been sorting through some of my stuff and getting rid of some of it (long way to go tho), and I've been pricing long-stay hotels in a few cities in the US. But I get really scared about doing it.
Did you spend all the money from selling your house, did you find you still have enough to live on? I've been trying to figure out how much money I'd need to keep to be able to afford settling down eventually. I don't want to waste the opportunity to travel though. It would be a lot easier if I knew how long I will live.

Not a bit scary. I was looking forward to traveling and seeing new and exciting places.
Yes, I did it alone.
Yes, I spent nearly all of my money. I did hold back enough to set up house-keeping again after the money ran out.
First stop Central America and touring the ancient Maya ruins.
From there to Hawaii. Onward to Japan and Korea. Then on to Hong Kong. Most polite and friendly people I ever met.
When I finally reached The Philippines, a friend talked me into living there for 6 years.
Moved onward to Indonesia and Thailand. Good heavens, talk about hot .
The heat drove me out and I decided to spend time touring Egypt. Once again touring the ancient monuments.
I always travel alone and I never, ever book with a tour group. That way I can spend whatever length of time I wish at any particular site. I always get a chuckle watching the tour groups being herded about, like a herd of sheep. It took me 3 days to complete a tour of The Museum of Antiquities in Cairo. And two days on the Giza Plateau and the Sphinix and the Great Pyramids. I bought a separate ticket to go up inside the Great Pyramid. Each site you visit you must buy a ticket.

I then hired a driver to take me to Memphis and toured the Step Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and The Bent Pyramid and the Colossus of Rameses The Great.

From there I flew to Aswan and I booked a "floating hotel" for a tour down the Nile to Luxor with several stops along the way. Surprising how good the food was. Naturally, no pork was served. No bacon, sausage, ham etc.

At Luxor, I hired a young man to drive me where i wanted to go: The Valley Of The Kings, The Temples of Karnack, The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and numerous other sites. One day it sprinkled and the driver got all excited. He said that in his life he had never seen rain. He also asked me many questions about America. He asked me how many Muslims lived in America ? I replied, "About 1%. He freaked out. ha Ha

That's something I can never do. Security of any kind is always my number one priority. Most time spent abroad was in Thailand living by myself most of the time but I never went off the beaten path.

Forget the overpriced house with Chinese drywall especially if you move next to the neighbors from HELL and a passport is pretty well useless to me especially if I travel within The U.S. of A, Israel, Haiti, Canada and Mexico. What I seek outside of the usual forum question where the usual pat answer is always health over money. I already have health, at 71 years old i'm not in the best of health but fairly healthy none the lest and no matter how much money I have from hogging for half a century I want power. One can have tons of money but no power but if one has power, they've no need for money. That's my honest answer leastways.

After being in Boca Raton on business, I was driving down to Miami to catch the flight back to the UK, so I decided to take the coastal route. It was a revelation - not all of Florida is covered with multi-million dollar mansions - there were some pretty shabby areas. Anyway, at one point, I could see that I was near some beaches and there was a small road off to my left which I took. It looked like a typical British street with terraced houses and a railing at the end. I stopped and walked down to the beach - it was magnificent and stretched for miles (it seemed). It was made even better by the sight of two young ladies wearing little more than shoelaces!

I like beaches, but I don't want a seaside holiday - I've lived near the sea all my life. My local beaches are nice by UK standards, but they sure ain't Florida.

I had several passports and yes, they were full of stamps. The stamps showed that I had a life full of wonderful experiences; just too many to mention. Stuff comes and stuff goes. I gave mine all away. They say that your kids wouldn't want most of your stuff when you die, except, of course, what you left behind in your bank account. Anyway, our land fills are just overflowing with "stuff". No one says on their death bed that they are not ready to die because they need to buy more stuff. However, the memories you made on trips can never be taken away and they are proof of a life well spent.

How can one compare walking on the Great Wall of China, swimming in the Nile, climbing a mountain, standing in Moscow's Red Square, seeing the pyramids, taking a cruise up to Alaska or a trip on the Trans-Siberian to Vladivostok through 7 time zones to buying a sofa, buying a pair of shoes or buying a new TV? That is the $64,000 question or it used to be?
