2001, I was seeing a Psychologist - as I was coming out of my 25 year drunken stupor

The world was a bad place for me back in those days.
The psychologist asked me one day if I knew any "Young Boys" who would like to go to his farm in the country for a weekend and help him with some work around the farm.
"Why would I know young boys and more to the point why are you asking for young boys to stay with you in the country"? I asked.
He said it does not matter and the session was over.
As I thought about what he asked me I realised that he was up to no good and I passed this information onto the police.
Over a decade later I read that he had been given a 9 year prison sentence for historical child sex offences.
He served over 7 years and was released on Sunday and immediately re-arrested to face extradition to NSW on further child rape charges.
Psychologists - how many are doing the same thing - right now?

I am delighted you followed your instincts and reported your psychologist. Saddened by the fact he proved to be a paedophile. Fortunately, he has had to face, and continues to face legal consequences for his child abuse. As to your question re how many psychologists are likely out

here doing the same thing at the moment, who knows? It has been my experience that most who practice my profession are dedicated individuals who endeavour to help others deal with their emotional problems. Are there some predators among us? Of course. Paedophiles

are often drawn to positions of trust and authority, where they can fulfill their twisted needs on helpless minors. Many are found amongst educators, coaches, religious organisations, youth organisations, medical personnel, etc. Virtually anywhere where positions of power and trust exist, and offer easy access to their minor victims.

Then there are the family members and friends who prey on children. The younger the child, the greater likelihood the sexual abuser is a family member, current stats indicate 50% for children under 6. For children from 12 to 17, stats are 25%. Scary stuff.

I knew of a priest who was responsible for handing out small amounts of cash to the underprivileged. He would trade sexual favours from young people and give them cash from the organisation.
These predators are everywhere and the young people have very few options. After all, adults are suppose to be trusted.
Even in my situation, I was abused at home, many people knew what was going on but not one of them done anything to change the situation.
I had to wait until I was old enough to have matters dealt with.
Too many people turn a blind eye because they do not want to get involved.
A sad world we live in and so many young people are being destroyed.

Psychologists are people too, probably as many pedophiles amongst them as many professions.

Good for you reporting it, even if it did not lead to an immediate arrest it may have helped get him on the "radar".

Pedophilia is an awful thing, I guess I don't really know much about it. However it seems to me to impact vulnerable people who can carry the emotional scars for life. Wish we had a better way to detect it and signs of it early on...

I am so sorry you were abused, and no one did anything. Tragic to hear of this predator priest also. Abuse can and does destroy lives. I truly hope and pray you have found some measure of peace in yours.🤗

Good thing your mind was clear enough to know that something was not right. Psychologists, priests, teachers, coaches, ministers, cops...doesn't matter the profession, there seems to be covert pedophiles wherever! I'm not surprised that he got arrested again; that urge isn't something that just goes away. I wonder if he got any kind of counseling when he was locked up. If not, what made them think it was safe to let him out?

Their thinking might have been, He was going to be rearrested immediately and extradited to NSW.
I am sure he will do a few more years prison. Though there is talk that his poor health? may keep him from doing more time.

I'm really sorry for the abuse you endured. And believe me, I know the long lasting effects it can have.

I have wondered what my stepfather's family thought of my mother. Though I don't think they witnessed her abuse. They sure witnessed her weirdness.

I'm so sorry you had to endure being abused! I'm hoping there is a special kind of hell for those who are so evil that they would abuse children. What is NSW?

Thank you.
In my case, I started drinking at 12 to block out all that was happening. By age 30 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis and it still took me 9 years to totally stop drinking.
That deprived upbringing has seen me shun society as a whole and I spend as much time as I can out in nature, away from people.

Good for you Bretrick, you got him where he belongs, but don't,
please, think that all psychologists are the same!

Every "Trade and every Profession", have bad apples, but never
think that they are all the same.

Mike.

Sure, I know they are everywhere. Everywhere, Schools, Churches, Life Savers, Boy Scouts....

Thank you.

I'm not social either and at this point have no friends. Never fit in anyplace. So a little socialization online is helpful and maybe all I want at this point.

I hope you are physically healthier now.
