What have you found for free at the curb? My grand-daughter is visiting with her twin boys. On her way to drop me back home, we spotted a small crib and a baby bounce activity center at the curb. The man in the driveway was pleased to offer these items and even helped fit the bouncer into the car. Getting it out, we realized it was a mint condition Baby Einstein toy retailing around $90.00. After a quick check of recalled items and routine sanitation, one of two boys entertained himself in this very swanky setup - and this comes in very handy! During these financially trying times, this was a great find!

I once found a child sized upholstered armchair and picked it up for little Paxton. It had dinosaur print on the fabric, and it was in very good condition. A lady was watching me and I pointed at it, and she said "Please take it if you want." As I loaded it into my van, I introduced her to Paxton in the backseat, and she was really happy about the whole thing.

So far, GoneFishin has my most envious find! That display cabinet is gorgeous! Isn't it amazing what people throw away (i.e. donate to the curb?)

Around these parts there's not a lot of furniture or objects left outside.. ...however I did leave a Sideboard out a couple of years ago, simply because the Charity shop wouldn't take it because as they said and I quote'' It's too dark, our customers want light wood '' so in essence they would have taken a cheap Ikea sideboard but not a quality one.. it looked like this and was an expensive piece of furniture..

and in almost perfect condition.. , so I put it outside completely wrapped in bubble wrap, with a 'for free' sign on it.. ..it wasn't there long before a bloke knocked the door, and said .. is that really for free , I said it was and he asked if he could have it, and explained his wife had left home and he'd had to find another home for him and his kids.. and they had very little of anything..

he went off and brought a mate back with him to collect it , and off he went a very happy bunny

Just realized that this is the original meaning of "curbside shopping!" But nowadays, we have to pay for it!

well, this wasn't curbside or roadside...

back in the 90s or maybe late 80s, I was playing basketball. Sat down on the grass next to the court to rest. My fingers started playing around with some pebbles.

I looked down and one of them was a fossil.

It was a brachiopod, a fossil. About the size of a quarter or so. I looked it up, those are 350 million years old. If I remember, they are an ancient ancestor of the modern horseshoe crab....

Very very common though...worth only about 50 cents at the time.

But, you know, it was fun to see one first hand.

I kept it for a few years and wound up giving it away to a neighbor's kid.

I pulled a push mower out of someone's trash just last week. It was perfect timing as I was looking to buy one for trimming around new landscaping. It is an old Lawn Boy 2stroke but started right up after I put fuel in it. Saved me $300.
