Most of Australia banned Fireworks in 1984

In Tasmania, members of the public must submit an application at least 21 days in advance of the intended fireworks display, and give at least seven days’ notice to police and fire services, landowners and managers of the site, and any neighbours within 1km.
The Northern Territory allows the sale of fireworks to adults once a year on 1 July, for people to set off in celebration of Territory Day that evening.
Fireworks can only be set off between 5pm and 11pm almost anywhere, and any unused explosives must be surrendered the following day.

As a child I loved cracker night, bonfire and all. Best night of the year I thought.

However, Sydney airport had to close because of all the smoke and hospital emergency departments were overwhelmed treating burns and eye injuries so private fireworks displays were banned.

Much safer now.

I lived in a town at the bottom of the Queen River valley.
Every Cracker night there were at least 12 large bonfires on the hilltops surrounding the town.
Queenstown was surrounded by a "Ring of Fire"
Great times.

As a child I loved fireworks. Threw a sparkler in the air, miscalculated and it landed on our shake roof, which immediately caught fire. Fortunately a hose was handy and I quickly put it out. No damage and no need to mention it to my parents. (-8
