The NY Times interns who hung out with Jr. said he may not have been very astute but he applied himself and was a very dedicated research analyst.

Oh, I definitely buy that. The impression Gordon gave me, was that he was a very quality individual. It really is quite a loss that he died so young. I really can only imagine he would have done some good things.

My friend Susan told me a bit about flying small planes in weather. That, they kind of let the celebrities get licenses before they are truly ready. She said that in storms, you can make a turn, make a slight adjustment in the wrong direction...and you are into a fatal crash dive within 3 - 5 seconds, in a way that you can't pull out.

Not sure if I am describing it exactly right. But bottom line, way too many folks out there with licenses who really don't have the high level professional training to fly small craft in weather. Not saying it was JFK Jr.'s fault. He may have never been told by the instructors that he really wasn't ready. Same thing with equestrian stuff. May have gotten Christopher Reeve paralyzed. People just don't know how to tell celebs "No, you are not ready."

JonSR77 you are spot on. Every profession has it's intrinsic hazards when having to indulge some it's privileged clientele. In AM/FM broadcast tower work a lot of station employees ask to climb the tower with us to see the vivid breathtaking views we see. After a couple of the brave hearts froze and hours later after fire/rescue had to remove them and the time lost and cost involved was revealed that stopped right in it's tracks. Some issues were called into account with the Kobe Bryant tragedy. In the end when there are no survivors it's an educated guess at best because the dead can't talk.

Would Table Rock Park be near Pinnacle Mountain by chance?
Pinnacle Mountain is the tallest mountain contained entirely within the state of South Carolina (the state's highest point, Sassafras Mountain, is partially in North Carolina). It is located within Table Rock State Park in Pickens County, South Carolina.

@FlaSkyEye I will accept your fine hello, and send you one in return. Welcome to Senior forums! I ask that you forgive my mix-up with my post in your "Mass Murderers" thread, over in "Cold Cases". I thought I was reading a first post in "Introductions". I hope to read many fine posts, from you in the future. Great to have you here.

I appreciate it Meanderer but this one's on me. I overreacted so I sincerely apologize to you, Feywon and the entire membership with hope to be forgiven. Take care.
