She Got Within 10 Feet of Yellowstone Bison, With Horrifying End

Anyone that visits Yellowstone Part is clearly instructed not to bother the animals. It used to be DON'T FEED THE BEARS, and upon entry to the park you were given a trash bag and a few informational guides. But on top of the pile of welcoming park info was a full yellow sheet with red block style printing, with only one short sentence. DON'T FEED THE BEARS. A mile farther down the road was a traffic jam with people feeding a bear. It's one of the most well know information campaigns in America, but we Americans have rights and we have the right to be stupid.

I'm sorry about that lady, but trying to protect her was almost an empty gesture. People want to pet the wild animals and do other dumb things.
 
There were pictures in the newspaper here, last Summer I think,
when people went into Windsor great park, which is the area
that Windsor Castle is attached to, the Queen's extended garden
and it several herds of deer roaming free there, a 12 or 13 pointer
stag was down on the grass, chewing the cud and minding its own
business, when a man approached it with his young son, hand in
hand, lucky for him, the stag got up and left the place where they
were heading for, they were going to stroke it according to reports.

Stupid man!

I'm sorry for the death of this woman. Wild animals deserve the utmost respect. They are not there for us. If we can admire them from a safe distance or have professionals film them, that's something else.

I hate these freaks who keep wild cats when all they have to do is adopt a "domesticated" cat and they have a small wild cat in their home to enjoy.

She brought it upon herself. Idiot.
 
Poor young woman, the article said she was only 25 yrs old. Probably she had no experience with animals. I've been to Yellowstone and I don't remember lots of warnings, there might have been a few signs but car passengers might not notice them.

I got chased by cows once when I was a teenager, it was very scary.

In South Dakota there is a place you can drive your car on a winding track among buffalo. One of the females dropped a big blob of mucus right next to our car, but the cars have to keep moving so other people can proceed, so we had to finish the drive and then park and watch with binoculars to see the baby buffalo get born.
 
Geez Louise! Bison are mean and deadly. Remember when “beefalo” was a thing? It was a cross between a bison and a cow. Turns out they were pretty hard to handle (duh!) unlike regular cattle, so that idea went by the wayside pretty quickly.

People can be pretty stupid when it comes to wildlife. I was on a birding tour on the King Ranch and there were some folks from Michigan there. Some javelina crossed our path and Michigan lady though they were so cute looking. “Can I pet them?” she gushed. All the Texans looked at her in horror. I told her, “only if you want to lose your fingers and possibly your arm.” True story.
 
Bison can weigh 2000 pounds and run at 35 mph.!!!!! Like getting hit by a car!!!!!!!!

1. Bison are the largest mammal in North America. Male bison (called bulls) weigh up to 2,000 pounds and stand 6 feet tall, while females (called cows) weigh up to 1,000 pounds and reach a height of 4-5 feet. Bison calves weigh 30–70 pounds at birth.

9. Bison may be big, but they're also fast and agile! They can run up to 35 miles per hour. Plus, they're extremely agile. Bison can spin around quickly, jump high fences and are strong swimmers.

I've been round wild animals a goodly part of my life

They're not pets
They're not to be played with

Yer camera should have a telephoto lens

Tended my son's wolf pup for awhile
Learned not to have my hands within reach
Hands are just chunks of meat
He was pretty cute when he'd bay, however

Bison are huge, powerful and wild animals. If you ask me, I think the woman was a darn fool for trying to get close to the bison. Wild things have a sense of space and she was getting into it. What did she want to do? Kiss the bison or just pet him on the head? That's what happens when city folks live in the city too long and lose a sense of reality. If she wanted a close up photo she should have bought a camera with a good zoom lens.

Last year I ran into a herd of wood bison up in The Yukon. The herd was sitting right in front of me on the highway. I did not go out and leave my car. I drove very, very slowly until they decided to give me a little space to pass. Lesson here is that I am alive today and that woman is dead! Respect! Treat all wild animals with respect. They are not your city dogs and pussy cats!

how many times a year do we see falls from cliffs or other dangerous areas hoping to get a photo.....
each year they have park deaths..... from people NOT heeding any warnings or reading signs.

Real cause of these fatalities ..... ignorance.
