Stores Recording You

Does it bother you that you’re being recorded while in a store? After I was finished packing up my little order, the area attendant asked if she could ask me this question. It doesn’t phase me at all. You can see the screen and it says you’re being recorded. Someone had been really indignant to the clerk.

At the end of the day, no one is going back to see how I look. It used for catching shoplifters. The more they catch, the less I’ll have to pay to make up for their thefts.

We both agreed it would have been nice to be able to suggest she take her arrogant attitude and not bother shopping there any more.

And if that arrogant woman doesn’t know it, there are cameras in all the stores and people watching.

When I was a kid, there was one on every porch in the neighborhood.

Also, if there's a worse crime, they have pictures of the perpetrators, which makes them easier to locate and apprehend, to prevent repeats by the same criminals. Another worth wile use, imo.
The camera might even possibly deter a few of them. So, I don't mind it.

Security cameras are everywhere, stores, restaurants, businesses, post offices, banks, stop lights, toll booths. People have security cameras on their property and in their homes. Anyone can record you with their cellphone. It's the norm. It's good and bad. Either way, there's no getting away from it. I assume the moment I leave the house that someone is watching me no matter where I go.

It never bothered me at work but it does bother me in stores, it makes me feel a bit self-conscious, like when I put my phone in my pocket today at the store, I hoped that the surveillance people wouldn't think I was putting a stolen item in my pocket. But, there is a personality characteristic that is sensitivity to being looked at, and I think I'm way higher than normal people in that characteristic.

It is like most things. There is a good and bad side to it and it will be used for both. I do not particularly like the idea but it is way past doing anything about it. It reminds me of George Orwell's 1984 as do many things going on these days.

Sci-Fi is so good at predicting the future, isn't it?

Video surveillance cameras don’t bother me as I believe that they have a theft deterrent value and may encourage shoppers to be more civil; I’ve witnessed vile verbal abuse of store employees. I question how effective even video recording will be against masked groups of shoplifters who descend at once upon a store, and do a coordinated “snatch and grab” operation. This seems to be a growing trend…🙁

Well, I don't care if there are cameras. I know my mall has cameras as when someone swiped my hoodie I left on the mall seating while I was doing my walk around the mall and I reported it to security and he said he would look to see if he could see someone pick it up. Never did hear from him.

I wouldn't want my picture displayed on every single tv and monitor when I walked into the store (like what happened to Em in Ohio). I would say something to the store.

No

I worry a bit about someone having a job watching me look for them.....

I think it'd be pretty cool if they would hand me a hearing device at the entry so they could tell me where a store clerk was, instead of me wandering around seeking them out

Or, maybe hook a game cam on the clerks.......with screens in strategic places

I'm so on this

I doubt most think about it....
but I have seen on various dateline type shows......... they will have a suspect buying the items used in crime etc and ends up making it very hard to not see the person did it.
wishful thinking that most think about cameras when shoplifting they still look for clerks etc but the camera is there..
It goes both ways also for being rude........ not Always the customer....... as clerks can be seen also .... one complaint may be caught on camera
