TRACKING .... tracking ....tracking

We have our Internet activity being followed, and cell phones being monitored .. just everyday life anymore.

Now we're being followed in our cars too ... http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_...-private-companies-are-tracking-your-car?lite

I have saved them some trouble with getting my car activity. I've installed a tracking device inside my car!
I asked for a Snapshot device from my insurance company. It watches and records every move and shows a record of it on the Internet. (It's for low mileage drivers and it does save money on your policy.)

So now that we are being watched 24/7 ... be good!

Oh! And smile for the camera, Google Earth has captured us from above too. Ever check out Google Maps? Interesting stuff there.

They're going the way of the Soviets and Nazis here, and although I have nothing to hide, I do NOT appreciate being monitored. People who inform us what's going on like Snowden, should be thanked, not punished. I would NEVER use the Progressive snapshot device, regardless of how much money it saved me. On Star systems in the newer vehicles, I wouldn't have either. Why would I want some stranger, to know my exact location, where I'm going and where I've been, lock and unlock my car doors from a remote location, shut down the power on my car completely, so I couldn't even drive it, etc., etc., etc? :noway:

Why would I want a Smart Meter installed in my home, where they can not only see how much electric I'm using, and will be able to shut down certain appliances in the future for (excuses) like power shortages, etc? And the icing on the cake, is that I can have a device on my own house that may give me or my family cancer, or other health problems.

Why would I want my Smart TV, or laptop, recording my conversations for anyone in remote locations who wanted to record me? Anything "Smart" should be avoided like the plague, IMO!

The drones in the future, probably the present now, can be small like insects or very large. From an extreme height in the air above, they can take detailed photos of an item that is 6 inches small, they can hack into Wifi and phone messages, they can see through the walls of your home, similar to the x-ray machines at the airport, etc.

They are wanting to keep blood, fingerprints and DNA samples of every human being born in the USA. They've put wrist bracelets on kids in school with RFID chips, to monitor their location. Soon those chips will be in all of the appliances sold, to be monitored also.

Yes, well, we need all this, they are watching over us, they only want to protect us, we could not survive without them instructing us on what move to make next.....NOT! That's the herding mentality that will be the beginning of the end for America...luckily I'll be 6 feet under before things get too out of control. :xbone:
:soap2:

I understand your concern SeaBreeze. I'm always looking at the bad side of things too, but these Smart Meters have about the same chance of giving you cancer as a microwave oven or your FM radio. And those are inside your home, where the meter is outside, not near anything. I have had a Smart meter for maybe 3 or 4 yrs. now, and it has given me a sense of relief ..... relief from meter readers jumping over a high locked fence, giving my dogs who-knows-what and being complete nuisances trying to get to the old analog meter. Electric rates have gone down after the switch from this old practice.

They read the meter from within, and have the ability to control the service with brown-outs, but haven't caused any problems to date. In the past, high temperatures for long periods would cause power plants to shut down anyway, didn't matter what kind of meter you had.

As for the Snapshot device, it's not sophisticated enough to locate you, or lock/unlock your car. It's just a running tally of your mileage and in 6 months I have to return it to them. The lower rate will continue after that without the device. I'm liking it.

I don't always look at the bad side of things at all, in fact, I'm generally very optimistic about many things in life. But I am also realistic about the changes being made as they relate to the average US citizens like myself...http://www.natmedtalk.com/f41/22073-dark-side-smart-meters.html

Have to disagree with you here, BM. I'm sure you're telling the truth as it happened in your own situation, but there have been MANY confirmed reports of illnesses such as tinnitus, headaches, nausea, sleeplessness and heart arrhythmia that started after the installation of the meter. Also, in the majority of areas that I am aware of the meter is installed inside the home.

A few other points to consider with smart meters ...

  • You're taking away the jobs of the meter readers
  • A number of fires and explosions have been reported in the U.S., Canada and Australia after the installation of these meters.
  • Smart meters are responsible, at least partially, for an increase in the death of bees and wildlife due to electromagnetic, non-ionizing radiation.
  • The information "profile" that is collected from you by these meters will be sold to corporations so that they can further violate your privacy.
  • What happens to the people who rely upon electric-powered medical devices? They have to pay higher rates if the machine is required 24/7.
  • Speaking of rates, a large number of customers have complained that their rates actually went up after the meter was installed.
  • Wireless technology has been proven dangerous to human health - why help them destroy yours?
  • Smart meters are one of the larger tech roll-outs in the past few years, yet precious little information or debate has been offered - why?

"It's not sophisticated enough to locate you or lock/unlock your car" ... THAT YOU KNOW OF. It would be simplicity itself to include a GPS device or remote function in this device and you would never know. Again, why give them the opportunity? Just to save a few bucks? And read the fine print that comes with the device - dollars to donuts it says that the information may be used any way they see fit - more loss of privacy and Democratic principles.

And the Snapshot doesn't just record miles - it records how many times you slam on the brakes, how many times you drive between midnight and 4am, how many times you turn your car on and off ... in fact, it recently saved a man from a murder conviction. If it can SAVE you from a conviction I'm sure it can also help convict you.

If I were still driving I would just say "No, thanks".

First ...... I'll try hard not to kill anyone in the next few months. Second, the expression 'Mountain out of a Molehill' comes to mind. And yes, it records stops, starts, midnight driving, slamming on brakes... yes to all of that. It really doesn't pertain to me or my lifestyle, or I would not have asked them if I could get the device in the first place.
If they locked the doors, what's the point, they would have to unlock them for me! Not understanding that argument.

1) Electric meters inside of houses? I haven't heard of that. They don't do that on brick homes down here.
2) Illnesses ....if the Smart Meter causes backaches, then I'll listen.
3) Rates have gone down noticeably. That is a fact.
4) Can't answer about people with medical devices - have no knowledge of that
5) I don't know what has happened to the meter readers; all I know is that they aren't harassing me anymore.
6) Bees are around and plentiful yet, and wildlife is the same as it's been for over 30 years. (Wildlife only moves out further - deer, raccoons, large birds, turtles, as they are endangered by the never-ending building/construction moving into their territory)

"Mountain out of a molehill" ... let's see ... oh, yeah - if they take control slowly and gradually, we won't notice. But if we stomp on the molehills early enough they won't grow to be mountains.

The locking/unlocking thing is just an illustration of yet again their exercise of control over you. You know how OnStar systems include that provision - about unlocking your door when your keys are left inside? It's like having Mommy by your side 24 hours a day so you never have to be responsible for your own messes.

... and we ALWAYS obey Mommy ...

1) It must be different where you are, because I know of many homes and businesses that have their meters indoors. Maybe it's an outdated practice, I'm not sure, but I know I've seen them on many occasions.
2) So if it doesn't impact you personally you're not concerned about it?
3) I'm sure it is ... for YOU.
4) Well, if they peg the rates to min/max usage times, then the patients who require those machines are going to end up paying more.
5) If you were a meter reader you might say different. But it doesn't matter, because most of the big power companies already made those positions part-time anyway. Can you say "Welcome to Detroit?"
6) I don't think you're seeing the big picture here. I'm not talking about ALL the bees in your yard suddenly keeling over. As for the 4-legged beasties, you're ASSUMING that they're moving because of construction. Maybe they're just getting backaches from the meters. :playful::D

I apologize for how that came out! Sorry!:rose: What I was trying to say was that we look at all sides (good/bad)of something.
... (Mush mouth me)

True, I don't know or see the big picture of all this. :) It's ever-changing.

Well said SifuPhil, they know what's needed to be done for the desired end result. Also, if I lock my keys out of the car, I'll do what people have done for decades, either use the wire hanger, or call the locksmith.

No apologies needed Boo's Mom. :) I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not one of those people who always looks for the negatives, but it's smart to be aware of both sides of everything nowadays. I respect everyone's opinion, but it's nice to know that their ultimate opinion is based on real facts. Also, I'm never out to change anyone's opinion...just sharing things I've discovered with others here...wouldn't if I didn't care. :) :love_heart:[/QUOTE]
