Puerto Rican couple with Down syndrome on life without limits

They are extraordinarily high functioning and don't really have the physical aspects of Downs. In other words, most unusual.

My buddy's Aunt Martha was released from a mental hospital after 30 years. Aunt Martha had obvious "issues". She bought a TV on time. It was $7/month. She couldn't understand "7", she knew she had to have two $1, and one $5. She had no idea one bill was worth more than the other. He house was so clean, you could do surgery on her floor. I felt like a slob when I visited her. I had to admire her, she had so little going for her, and she had it together.

My goodness this young couple would put all those people who are healthy but too lazy to work...to shame...
There are a couple of people working at our local Walmart, for several years now, who have "Downs". They keep the carts cleaned and positioned and help with stocking the shelves. They are very friendly and hard working...in spite of their condition.

However, it's pretty common to be inline in the checkout at a grocery store, and see the person ahead looking fit and healthy, and paying for their groceries with a SNAP card.

Not all disabilities are apparent.

I haven't any idea what a SNAP card is...
