Cassettes Anyone?

Gaer, if you can't find cassette players anywhere, you might want to look at ebay. We had an issue with a VHS tape recently, and bought a used(?) VHS player on ebay. Works just fine.

I have a nice old 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup with slightly over 100K miles on it. It has a cassette player, and whenever I drive it for more than a few miles, I often put one my favorite old tapes in the player....beats listening to endless commercials....or some of this current rap crap.

I've never like cd's much, I much prefer cassettes, my kids call me a dinasour[and I am] but I ain't giving up my cassettes...anyone one else?
Don't let your kids push you around! Stick with your guns! What do they know starring at their smartphones for 16 hours everyday? I know what I'm talking about because I still have LP record albums. Don't laugh! Some of the reissued records in bookstores sell for $40 plus here in Canada. I used to buy LP records for $2.99 and then they went up to $3.99. I suppose that is what the good people are talking about when they talk about inflation!

Well, I hope your cassettes don't wind up unraveling on you. I have had that happen so I prefer CDs, but still have several cassettes. I've been mulling over the idea of getting a device that transfers sound from cassettes to CDs. One of the reasons is that the speakers for my stereo components are no longer hooked up because I stopped using the stereo unit once it became so easy to listen and store music digitally.

Yes, Cassettes.
What could be more fun than:
Trying to rewind the tape by hand when it gets loose. And repairing the cassette player when tape gets stuck in it.
Throwing the cassette away when it breaks.
Waiting patiently for the tape to rewind or fast forward.
Hearing the sound quality degrade over time & repeated playback.
And that wonderful tape hiss. And also the loss of high frequency when you use the Dolby Noise Suppressor.
Constantly cleaning the tape head whenever the sound is muffled.

Oh Happy Day!! :ROFLMAO:

Yup, I've got a pretty good collection of old Vinyl from the '70's and '80's, etc....Pink Floyd, ELO. and many others. I still listen to some of them on bad weather days, etc. Vinyl seems to be gaining in popularity, due to its excellent sound quality. Some of the old albums I bought years ago, for 3 or 4 dollars, are now selling on EBAY for 10 times what I paid. I've got a Sansui 9090DB amp that I paid about $400 for in the early 70's....some of those are now selling for as much as $3,000 on EBAY.

Do you still have one of these? :)

Or this?
I don't really remember liking cassettes too much. They always ended in a mess. Yes, I like the landline phone. A few years back I visited with a guy who said he was talking on a landline, like the one pictured, and he said it was the same phone that was at the house when he was a child. He only had one phone all of thoaw years. He was in his seventies at the time, and he still lived at his original family home in Memphis. He was an astronomer. He also said he was using the same fan he had for twenty years.

No one is a "dinosaur" because they prefer an older invention. I have over a hundred cassettes but I rarely play
them. I have a cassette-CD player that is fine. I am sick of the word dinosaur. It's stupid and snobby.

These machines were indispensable for musicians. When going over new songs at practice, you tape the best cut and you practice with it over, and over, and over. I used both of these kind. I guess now you can record the practice with your cell phone! :)

Haaaaa, I hear ya, but at my age when my kids use it, I take it as a badge of honor, and it reminds me that I grew up in safer better time when kids could go outside and not worry about guns, when music was great coming out of the radio...I'M PROUD TO BE A...DINASOUR!!!
