A few nights ago Sunday I think ? Police were called to a home for a domestic violence incident. About an hour after they arrived the male shot at the police, hitting one of the officers in the head. It was first reported that the police returned fire , killing the suspect. It is now being reported that the suspect may have indeed turned his gun, on himself . They are not sure ...... @ this time.

The officer that was shot was touch & go for awhile ........ but they said today , he was able to get up a walk in the hospital ........ some good news there.

Sadly dv has become , or started ? , as a political/social thing outside the law to try to be an 'influencer' to provoke legal and even violent measures
even if there was no violence government or police involvement under this guise often creates violence and makes things much worse .

Just Jeff, I am not sure I fully follow your thoughts from your post.

DV occurs when a family- or household-member is attempting to cause or recklessly cause bodily injury to another. It is also when someone threatens to use force causing someone to fear they are in imminent serious physical harm. Domestic Violence is just that, an act of violence.

When a victim calls the police for help from a DV, they have to respond. Officers showing up to the scene after receiving a that call for help isn't going to create the violence. That violence or threat of violence already occurred before the call for help was made.

DV calls are one of the most dangerous situations officers can be dispatched on.

My prayers are always with my brothers and sisters doing their job.

Unfortunately There was a shooting in Surrey I assume that it was probably someone close to someone who died in the air India bombing.

"Ripudaman Singh Malik, one of two men acquitted in the 1985 Air India terrorist bombings, has been shot to death in Surrey, B.C."

You are so wrong it isn't even funny. My partner works for a non-profit that benefits survivors of domestic abuse. Domestic violence has nothing to do with anything remotely political/social and everything to do with spouses/partners of any sex who choose to dominate the other person either emotionally or physically. He sees women (and sometimes men) who come into shelters with nothing but the clothing on their backs because they have chosen to leave a toxic and potentially lethal situation.

Don't comment on something unless you know the facts.

That shooting is more likely a reprisal to do with different elements in the radical branches of the Sikh community. The dead man had amassed a sizeable fortune over the years ( several million dollars ) through business deals that caused jealousy amongst his political rivals. Somebody got even. JimB.

I have a friend that is a State Trooper. Just last week while speaking with him on the phone, he was telling me about a Trooper he was going to visit that is in a long term care facility. The young Trooper was shot in the head during a routine traffic stop. The gunshot to his head turned this young man into a paraplegic. This happened 4 years ago. There are times he goes home for awhile, but when he gets an illness like the flu or an upper respiratory infection, he has to go back to the facility for care. He told me it’s a very sad sight to see, but him and other Troopers continue to visit him. He is able to recognize them and speak with them.

Well said, thank you. And thank your partner. As someone who has known DV victims up close and has personally aided one or two in making and executing escape plans i can extrapolate the emotional toll on those who deal with it daily in their work.

Mentioning male victims is important because so many don't want to believe there are any male victims,

After thinking about this, I remember that bombing. The plane was a B-747 with over 300 people onboard and no survivors. They arrested a bunch of people from some terrorist organization, but only found one person guilty and he didn’t serve a lot of time, did he? I forget the details, but wasn’t there someone popular in entertainment or politics onboard that flight?

Could this have been a relative of one of the passengers that killed him?

Another local police action ...... just the other night . Two white guys escaped from a low security holding location . They removed a window , and dropped from the second floor. One of them was caught and surrendered when arrested . The other one night later made his stand in a motel room ...... the police shot and killed him ........ good police work in both cases.

Last I heard there will be no riots.

The Air India bombing was 37 years ago. It was the greatest loss of life in a single event in Canadian history, over 300 people died in the air, over Ireland. The bomb had been placed on the aircraft by a baggage handler who was a member of the terrorist group of Sikh nationalists, who want to establish a independent country within India. That was the motive, to try to force the Indian Government to allow the establishment of a Sikh nation within India. That political movement is still active, both in India, and in Canada. The man who was recently murdered was/is a leader of the Canadian branch of the Sikh nationalist movement. The RCMP has found video of a car that was waiting ( for a number of hours ) near his business location . The car was found on fire, a hour after the shooting took place. Obviously this was a planned attack . I will say this. The vast majority of the Sikh population of Canada are honest and law abiding people, who are nice and polite. The Sikh nationalists are not . JImB.

At one time, terrorist groups favorite way of causing mass destruction was blowing up a plane. Same as with the attack on throwers, killing as many people as possible in a single event was part of their agenda. These people are cowards. Anytime a person sucker punches another person, it is an act of cowardice. This was another reason I had on my list for not wanting to fly international routes. It’s a terrible way to die. Many of the passengers are found still belted in their seat drowned.

That wouldn't be surprising, killing among the Sikhs is fairly common. Shooting is not. They come up with other methods.
