The law of attraction, questions???

A friend of mine who is a psychologist does believe in the law of attraction which absolutely shocks me. It could be the positivity part of it she believes in and I agree with that much. If you do list good things that have happened to you on a daily basis there DO seem to be more good things to be grateful for each day. But, hmmm.

Why aren't we all billionaires, or at least comfortable elites. Why do bad things happen to us for us to be grateful for rescue from such. Why is there war and insurrection and hatred and bullying? Why is there catastrophic illness? The list goes on and on and on.

I always thought the LOA was just crap, but some of it works while most of it doesn't so how is it useful to us?

Thoughts and opinions?

I think that usually, if not always, people will find what they look for. (sadly, this includes money, which leads to many more problems)

Listing good things may help to think on good things daily, but not all that glitters is gold, right ? What people think is good may turn out to be a nightmare. But , good or not, they will or may find it if they look for it and keep looking for it.

When people say 'How could a God allow this or that, I always say the question is flawed.

Because we never ask the opposite when things are going well. 'How could The Devil allow me to enjoy this beautiful sunset...or the birth of my child.'?

I'm more spiritual. I believe in a higher power. And I believe the good you do today will come back to you in spades tomorrow. Karma.

Everyone who is in their right mind would refuse to listen to those.
If help is needed, find someone helpful. Truthful. Non-harmful. Non-scary.
The gratitudes for positives IS true though it could be simple like restructuring how we think.

We may not get along on other topics @Just Jeff, but I lilke this side of you. Your thoughts were valid. True love is known, in your heart, your soul. There is no need for question or advice.

I agree. We are given free will.

Maybe be more on the weekends as we have many that are still in the workforce. Some are early to bed early to rise, or like me can't sleep, so here at nght and not in the day. Also members all over the world, the time difference. It all works out overall.

Some nights are very quiet, but it's still nice to read comments from earlier in the day.

"This side of me" is totally in perfect harmony with all I've posted, even if some posts look contentious, the battle is not with you or with humans, but spiritual forces, wicked forces, that afflict as many as they can.

Going slower, with more examples, would be 'nicer' perhaps, but there may not be time.

Seemingly more people on the forum late than usual. Is that typical for Friday night? Maybe last night too?
it is summer time so people are likely out and about doing outdoor things. i'm on late because i work 2nd shift. come winter it will pick up a little.

I wouldn't say that just because a psychologist advocated the Law of Attraction means its valid. How it's supposed to work is sketchy. And there are way too many holes in the theory. I believe LOA is more myth than reality.
What I don't like about it is that they blame YOU if it fails. That's a bummer. Has anyone had a truly positive experience from the LOA? I've had some small things but nothing life changing.

Yes, I met my husband. However, I did not cause the positive thoughts. The positive thoughts possessed me. It was just like this song:
I had this and 2 other tunes in my head pointing the way.

That was beautiful. :giggle:

I read Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich many years ago. Law of attraction is a re-packaging. Many things that I intensely desired years ago are only now, in my 60s dropping in my lap. God does have a sense of humor sometimes, I wished for serenity, and I ended up living on a street named serenity for awhile. Life on Earth is a combat game, with both predators and opponents that have opposite wishes. God isn't to give everyone exactly what they want, our creative visualization powers have a limit.

Who in their right mind would argue with the psychologist?
I can see where you're coming from, but like many things in life it would probably be foolish to complete ignore their expert opinions.

We all know what "attraction to a mmber of the opposite s*x" feels like, (if that has anything to do with the price of fish?!). :)

No, it doesn't seem you can see where I was coming from. I don't have a clue what you are talking about.

I wasn't familiar with the term, had to Google it. Appears to be a belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. That sounds reasonable to me on the surface, without making a whole thing of it.
The attitude "I can do this" will get you more success in living than "I can't do this....".
