My Neighbors Sit Under My Window To Spy

I have had neighbors like this as well. In one apartment I lived in at the time, I had received an upsetting diagnoses from my doctor and was crying about it on the telephone with my counselor. Next thing I knew, I could hear these two young women from next door, loudly mimicking what I had said and laughing about it.

I was aware they do this and generally close the windows when they are outside. And they do have a big enough yard and a deck so there is no need for them to sit in such close proximity to my house.

Another neighbor repeated something to me that she could have only heard through them. I had a conversation yesterday with my cousin about moving and she asked me about it. No one else was privy to this conversation.

When they first moved in we did talk but after awhile I found they give me the creeps and I want to be polite but distant. I never initiated conversations, and made excuses to excuse myself when trapped.

This resulted in them going to another neighbor who they know I am friendly with to ask this person why I was not talking to them. Then to add to it they confronted the handyman doing some work on our house. Both people felt as if they were put on the spot.

Don't laugh, it's not funny, but I have thought of discouraging their behavior by turning on the computer to either a porn site with moans and groans or perhaps to an evangelical Christian broadcast.

Think they might get the message?

Suggestions welcome.
I am sorry but I had to laugh at the threats of porn and/or evangelistic sermons. :D Have you tried talking to them? I can not imagine how frustrating this must be...my first approach would be to talk to them. Of course that may not help if they are busybodies and are as rude as you indicate. Still IMO it is worth a try...any harsh retaliation just might escalate a bad situation. All the best!

That is not going to work. We had a guy move in next to us, who is paranoid, delusional and maybe psychotic. I had a leftover piece of downspout, and his was broken. Being a nice guy, I offered it to him. As an aside, I mentioned he had some weeds growing where he could not normally see them.
I suggested he get rid of them, as the park management was "death on weeds". The next thing I know I am getting a call from the manager saying this guy told them I was badmouthing them. I told them exactly what happened and what I said, and showed them a photo of his weeds.
I followed up with a letter explaining the situarion, and putting the management on notice that the guy was paranoid and delusional.

Maybe they are just plain bored, with no real life .... wanting to do something, anything, to not be bored ?

What kind of excuse is that for eavesdropping and repeating what they've heard? They're rude, intrusive, and trespassing. I don't care how "bored" they are. Go be bored elsewhere, away from my window and property.

yes but can you imagine..you're having a private convo with Michelle in your own home.. .. talking about the fact that one of your grankids is in debt for example .. and the next thing you know.. a neighbour further down the road is talking about your business, because the next door neighbours were sat under your window listening, and passed it on to everyone else..
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't care. I'd wonder why my neighbor cares, but it wouldn't effect my g-kid's situation, or me, or anything at all.

I like the 'plant some rose bushes' or move the bench or whatever they are sitting in somewhere else or place a loud radio in your window or turn the sprinkler on....you get the idea.

A lot of people /professionals even/ do far far far worse.

People will be people, and understanding a little, or a little understanding, can go a long way to peace.

maybe...but eavesdropping is kind of rude, don't you think?
Sure, or it can be, but then again, what about storing everything you ever typed into a computer in your lifetime, every keystroke, every day for the last five or ten or more years,
and selling any or all of it to whoever is willing to pay the price ,
or 'give' it to the government or other corporation in some sort of deal ?

I had some neighbors trying to eavesdrop in an obvious way just last week. I was sitting on my porch talking to my next door neighbor who is really nice. The neighbor from two houses down had their car parked at the curb right in front of my house. So they stood next to their car pretending to stare at their phone while avidly listening to our conversation. I switched it to a litany of physical ailments and the outcome of several doctor visits. You should have seen how quickly they lost interest!

Pretend to be making a phone call.....and 'loudly'.....

"Hello, Jack, what's that you say?"
"You mean there are burglars in the area!!"
"Thanks for the tip-off, mate, I'll get some CCTV cameras installed tomorrow, that should deter anyone lurking outside my place."

"An eavesdropper was someone who would hang from the eave of a building so as to hear what is said within. The PBS documentaries Inside the Court of Henry VIII (April 8, 2015)[2] and Secrets of Henry VIII’s Palace (June 30, 2013) include segments that display and discuss "eavedrops", carved wooden figures Henry VIII had built into the eaves (overhanging edges of the beams in the ceiling) of Hampton Court to discourage unwanted gossip or dissension from the King's wishes and rule, to foment paranoia and fear,[2]
and demonstrate that everything said there was being overheard;
literally, that the walls had ears.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eavesdropping

"Eavesdropping is the act of secretly or stealthily listening to the private conversation or communications of others without their consent in order to gather information."

So usually the problem might be solved by actively or passively GIVING CONSENT. Then it is not eavesdropping, eh ?

Listening to other people is their idea of entertainment.
My neighbors are lucky then, I don't give a @%$# what they're doing or saying, as long as they're not looking to burglarize my house or put their trash in my dumpster. Wouldn't be able to hear the neighbors talk anyway unless they were shouting, house here are far enough apart, you could fire a shotgun point blank at the neighbors house, and none of the shot is likely to reach their house.

I think you should get a friend or two and then perform a play, within their earshot. Maybe act out a scene where you are planning a diamond heist or some kind of James Bond stuff. (but do not let on that it is only a play)
