Have you used online banking to send money to family?

I have a grandchild's birthday coming up. I normally give them money but this time, it will have to be mailed because that is the only way I can unless I use online banking. I am not comfortable putting a check or cash in my mailbox for it to sit and someone steal it. I checked with my bank and they told me I can use their online banking service to send it. They will send a check to him but I feel their check will be more secure than mine. At least theirs will not be sitting in a mailbox advertising to everyone that passes I've got mail to go out. Have you tried this and if so, how did it work out for you?
 

I use online banking to send money to members of family. You need to make sure that you enter the correct BSB and account numbers to ensure it goes to the right account.

I suggest that for the first time you ask a bank employee to make the transfer payment for you. You will need to identify yourself as the owner of your account and after that all that is needed is BSB and Acct #. You can then send a card to your grandchild.
 

Here in the UK..I transfer money to my daughter all the time.. you only need their name, sort code and account number. You can pay from any bank, you don't need to know the name of the recipients bank, because the sort code tell the internet which bank it is..

Yes, I did this recently. One of my sons lives in Holland and I wanted to send him money to help with putting a deposit on a house. I went into the bank in person, with all the details and it was transferred from my account to his. No hassle!
 
Yes and it is easy AprilSun, as hollydolly says all you need are
his bank details.

We transfer money to our children's accounts from time to time using my laptop or Mrs. L's tablet. It's ages since I've paid anything by cheque, but last week Mrs. L received a cheque for unexpired road tax because she had changed cars.

Those I have sent money to, I've used Western Union

They're usually a bit desperate, so I don't care to tempt 'em with my banking info and such

It may cost me a few extra bucks, but the peace of mind is worth it

As for sending gifts to the less needy, I don't

I sent my son the down payment for his home via wire transfer. The only hitch was I had to make sure someone in the branch could
authorize that amount.
When it hit his bank account, he sent me a cute e-mail, "The Eagle has Landed". :D

I have not tried it, but I do think it is done, and my guess is that it is handled in a more secure manner than personal mail would be.

Mail gets lost or delayed for long time, much more commonly that it was years ago, so though I might have done that at one time,
I wouldn't recommend doing that nowadays.
I would mail a card or note, but I would try the online method for the money.
 
I've used Venmo on my computer.
Went to use a 2nd time, and it wouldn't work.

Don't know why...had to back away from the computer. :unsure:
