When I was a kid an uncle had a ranch on Lake Okeechobee, he had brahman cattle they were quite aggressive, I could see them doing something like this, but not the cows in the pictures!

Apparently cows kill an average of 22 people in the US every year. I had no idea.

I had no idea, either. I've petted every cow I've ever seen - at least 50

I'm glad that lady survived. I always thought cows were docile. Guess ya'll can tell I've looked at them, but never even touched one.

Never go into a field when their are cows with calves.
Bullocks (steers) can be playful but unlikely to hurt you.

Dairy cattle such as the Fresians shown in the article, can be very aggressive especially if a dog is present. One country life show on TV dealt with problem and one piece of advice was to let the dog go because the cattle would see it as the aggressor, not the person.

I agree about taking a goose along for protection .... they know how to hold their ground! I found that out years ago ...

Decades ago, I dated the daughter of a dairy farmer. We were walking across the field where the cows grazed when one of them kinda came after us. My date used her farm girl expertise to try and drive the cow off, but the cow was persistent and unrelenting, and clearly unhappy that we were there. I was really glad when we made it to the gate enclosure, having learned that not all cows are “contented!”

Poor woman! The cows must have felt threatened in some way. Normally pretty docile, they will get very protective of the calves. Around these parts, it’s not ok for someone to just walk through someone else’s pasture, especially if there are livestock and you’ve got a dog.

I enjoy being around cows. They aren’t the most intelligent animal on a farm, but they are easy to control, unless they are being worked on by a Vet. For some reason, Vets seem to irritate cows. Then again, some cows just naturally have a bad attitude.
