An Idea

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
I have an idea as a result of an occurrence here last night. I BBQ a lot. As a result I go through gas grills like Liz Taylor went through husbands. I ordered a new grill and called the city to pick up the old one (our city does that). They were to pick it up this morning and since they could be here as early as 6 AM I put it out by the sidewalk late last night. At midnight it was gone, someone stole my trash. I called the city and cancelled the pickup and was told that happens all the time. So, from now on I'll just put my large item trash out and let someone steal it rather than bother the city with it.

lol...that's funny but I can imagine how true. I actually do this. The item is always gone before morning. I live on a busy-ish street so that probably helps.

I don't know how many times I threw out an electronic or furniture item and saw that it was gone by morning. I think that happens a lot. If it's something that isn't really broken, I sometimes put a Free sign on it and leave it at the end of my driveway, someone will always come by and take it. One man's trash is another man's treasure, glad to help somebody that maybe can't afford the item.

Although I live in a rural area, at the end of a dead end dirt road, there are men that go through trash, looking for scrap metal. They have knocked at my door asking me if they could have my riding mower trailer. Granted it has become somewhat rusty...but, remains functional. I have to be careful not to leave anything anywhere near the road.....for, after my trash was picked up, they even took my trash cart LOL

Around here they don't wait for you to put it out front - they go into the backyard at night and take it.

We only have "large appliance" pick-up twice a year, and they include grills in that category.

Yeah, this city is excellent when it comes to services. Our large item pickup is year around and usually next day.

Jim, somebody gave my DH a used gas grill. He took the unit out and put some kind of steel grate in place of it. It's the best charcoal grill we ever had.

I guess that makes us rednecks, doesn't it.:lofl:

Not unless you want to be. Redneck is more a state of mind than anything else.
