Welp, almost went down again,

Becky, I hope your recovery has been good. How did it happen and how are you healing?
I slipped and fell. Still not recovered, I had the surgery a rod and screws put in on Sept 21st. Then on Oct 12th I had emergency surgery on my arm due to severe swelling. The Dr had to open it back up, the full 8 inches down to the bone, it had continue bleeding under the skin and I had hematoma's and fluid built up. The Dr said when he made first incision everything shot up nearly missing his face and he removed about 2 liters of fluid. I have some swelling now and have compression sleeve to wear. I am doing some physical therapy at home.

So I had another wait for healing. Incision is healed now however I have wrist drop, the ulnar nerve is either damaged or was cut completely during surgery. I have to have a nerve conduction test to determine which. After having my arm opened up 8 inches twice I have already decided I will not have it done again to repair the ulnar nerve, I will adjust and adapt!

I fell last week and fractured my arm midway between elbow and shoulder. I'm scheduled for surgery to have a rod put in on the 23rd but hoping sooner. 😥

Seeing that pic, don't know why they'd let it sit alone untreated. Hurry to feel better.
I lifted a box that weighed maybe 20lbs. I could feel it right away. That lower back strain. Yep. 3 days later it is starting to heal. We have to watch our every step!
I've had that happen. Sliding a 40 lb computer onto a rack (temp working at Tektronix) I could feel my spine just shift. The pain hit a day later, took two weeks to go.....

@Becky1951 I'm SO sorry the surgery went this way for you! I hope somehow the nerve can be repaired less drastically, but then, I don't understand these things.

While I'm sad you've had it so rough, I'm happy to see you again. Missed ya. 🌹

I've actually learned how to fall. I can twist in mid-air and land on the back of my shoulder which seems to work for me. The only thing I've broken lately was the pinky finger on my right hand.
Where did you learn to fall and twist. Is it something on You-tube.

i did the exact same thing a little over 5 years ago. was a teacher's aide with a HS special needs student. the fall? last of about 4-5 steps going up after crossing between buildings. the fall was nothing spectacular... i remember the whole thing in slo-mo. landed face down on concrete. long story short... PAINFUL ambulance ride to ER. surgery a few weeks later. scar from shoulder to elbow. inside... titanium rod and 13 screws. no stitches... glued shut. x-rays are very impressive. wore sling when out. my advice... ask doc/surgeon about restrictions... there really aren't many no matter what it looks like... MOVE arm (shoulder & elbow) as much and as often as you can. you don't want to develop "frozen shoulder".

can we do PMs here? if you wanna talk about our "war wounds", just holler!

the term eluded me but just came into focus... ORIF... open reduction internal fixation... name of the surgery. i remember first meeting with surgeon... he said it was a "big surgery". i remember being wheeled into surgery and next thing i knew i was fully awake... no serious pain. the pain meds they gace me kinda scared me to death so i would substitute the serious stuff for a few tylenol.

My 67 yr. old younger brother is learning the hard way, that he needs to be more careful doing things. He's turning 68 in December. His job requires a fair bit of activity. I gently reminded him that we're all getting older. No more full days on his knees, scraping his deck for 4 hours .. not even with knee pads.
it hurts my knees just seeing someone else down on theirs!

I broke my left pinky on my first outdoor fall a few years ago. I thought I had posted the pictures in this thread, but I guess not. These were taken this week showing My left pinky still doesn't align properly like the fingers on my right hand, but I can move it with no issues. The ortho specialist had ordered a custom brace for the hand, ready the same day. Did you have to wear a brace? Does your pinky look, function normally now?

Mine sticks out just like yours, Diva. And it doesn't bend completely when I clench my fist. AND it hurts still.

Yes, I wore a finger brace for a couple of weeks.

So sorry you're still hurting Jujube! I notice you used the word "lately" when describing your broken pinky, so I hope that it will stop paining you real soon. I can't remember how long mine hurt and I don't remember the pain being too bad. I'm able to bend mine like normal but it's been a few years for me.
