Do you ever worry that robots will take over?

Is it possible robots can take over humans in the future? Are you the kind of person that says don't worry about it, who makes the robots?
All kinds of things are being tested by robots in a lot of fields i.e. bomb squad, testing cars, and even flipping burgers.
What do you think about all this?

They will one day.. they're already prevalent in so many industries and even hospitals ... I don't worry about it.. my working days are over. My daughter is only 20 years from retirement so if they do eventually become the norm.. they won't make her job vacant.. she'll already be retired..

Not worried about robots taking over. What does bother me is if we humans were to become too dependent on robots, especially the human-seeming, servant-kind of robots since humans seem to have an innate flaw of wanting to be slavemasters. That flaw needs to be constantly fought against and if you have human-enough-seeming robots that people can treat as slaves, it'll make that flaw even harder to fight against.

I'm not saying that they couldn't ,but no, I'm not worried. I have to ask, why would they want to 'take over', that over what? Robots will have superior minds, and not be encumbered with emotions like those that cause envy, greed, hate, sorrow and such.

"I have to ask, why would they want to 'take over', "

"Want" to take over ? I didn't know robots could want ??

"Take over" in the sense that take over your job, control of your recourses, making choices, getting a mate, making our products, you name it. :) ....so the question is real, and we are being replaced, and controlled. The line is getting blurrier between science and human well being.

I don't know if robots will ever take over, but when a computer can "think", we will have created a new species of life. Today, you can tell a computer to pick any number from one to ten, and it can't do that process. Today, no computer can answer the question. When the day comes that you ask that question, and the computer says ," Umm, six", we will have AI.

Just now amused me to see all the folks in line to pay
respects to the Queen, all got their cell fones up in the air
trying to capture everything....they do not realize they are
"missing the moment" and instead looking at the past....
imho.,...

Good point. They can't literally want anything, but they can reach conclusions...such as This many people / that much food = 60% of the people gotta go. ("Release the viruses!" :p)

No, I'm not afraid they'll take over the world, if that's what the OP is asking. And I'm bummed I'll miss that honeymoon phase when our own little private robots are serving us tea and making our beds and stuff....you know, before they take over the world.

Robots are just tools. If anything takes over it will be the artificial intelligence that controls them. Our intelligence is limited by the number of neurons in our brains. There are a lot, but it's not infinite. Computers don't have that problem. Being artificial, their growth is technically unlimited. Right now they are pretty dumb. But, the internet allows them to communicate with each other. There are millions of them. If by some quirk they learned how to cooperate and combine their knowledge, the so called singularity could happen.

If it did, would it be bad for us? Maybe not. It couldn't do any worse job than we have been doing. It would be as logical as Mr. Spock. It wouldn't be troubled by emotions like rage or jealously or worry about things like which religion is the correct one. I think it would be interesting to see how it would work out. Not likely for me I'm afraid.

I'm 76 so I'm not worried. Regarding the robot take over, this is probably good news for all those young people who don't want to work but spend their days starring at their smartphone. They wouldn't have to work at all but I wonder how they are going to pay for their smartphones and the monthly charge for all the GB that they use? Oh yes, I wonder if those robots will pay for their rent and their groceries? Strange, brave new world coming!

Not ā€œrobotsā€ — Artificial intelligence. The human brain is limited by skull size, number of neurons, etc, but AI is limitless. Barring the development of an interconnection between the human brain and the vastness of AI, Humanity is likely to become increasingly dependent on AI in much the same way that our dogs and cats are dependent on us. Let’s hope that AI is a benevolent master. (-8
