Bussing illegal immigrants

This kind of migration will continue to increase around the world as climate change makes more places uninhabitable or nearly so. Desperation sets in when people live in horrifically unsafe conditions or cannot feed and house themselves or their families.
I believe climate change if going to affect vast swaths of the world. I think we should develop a strategy of adjusting to huge immigration changes, as we may be the ones doing the moving.

When I was a kid, I asked a couple of the older generation (WW II generation) why was it that the interment camps held Japanese (more accurately Japanese-Americans) while the U.S. had also been at war with other countries. I was told the reason was 'Japan attacked the United States.' Somehow that didn't seem to be the answer.
Even if you take into consideration Hawaii wasn't exactly the United States at the time, I later learned about this from a variety of sources: https://www.newenglandhistoricalsoc...ii-6-months-of-secret-terror-in-the-atlantic/

So while Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, there was at least as much danger from Germany..
And, while American citizens of Japanese ancestry were held in camps, in the area where I lived as a young child Italian POWs from the nearby V.A. hospital were taken into town to public movie theaters...

The REAL reason, from my POV: Japanese-Americans "looked different" than individuals with Caucasian ancestry.
And I fully believe that's the reason for anti-immigration these days focusing only on "our brown-skinned neighbors from the south."

These days, though, with the internet, there's even more room for propaganda. The 9/11 attacks did not involve Hispanics, nor, as someone posted in the Retirement section individuals from foreign countries buying up real estate and causing many Americans to become homeless.
When Hispanics commit crimes, it's all over the web for many years; when it's someone else, little is said.

A few years ago, two college girls were murdered. As one was allegedly murdered by an "illegal alien," there's been no end to the ongoing coverage; as the other girl was murdered by a white American citizen, virtually nothing was said after the guy was convicted.

There are sanctuary cities and states that have not received any of the illegals. Why should only a few states be expected to take on the now over 2,000,000 illegal entries while other states receive none?
The majority of illegals fly in with a visa and then don't leave when they should. So it is not true that the sanctuary places have not "received" illegal immigrants. I will try to paste a map. If Texas/Florida were really interested in spreading the pain they would send the immigrants to the Dakota's.

Wow, a brief, anonymous wikipedia article. You really brought the research this time.
Now, now... let's not get all emotional on us. :ROFLMAO:

It's not an "anonymous" article. It's research and all the sources are referenced so people can read the original articles and get more depth, if they so desire. Of course, doing so may not fit their world view and may cause their heads to explode.

I shouldn't bother debating anything with someone who doesn't know when to use "its" and when to use "it's".

I'll give you this, you are often wrong, but you are never in doubt.

I wish people would stop using the term "Illegal" as if it were the crime of the century. You make an "illegal" right hand turn doesn't mean you should be locked up for life, or get the death penalty. Illegal entry is a misdemeanor in the United States.

It's a binary issue. You are either here legally, or you are here illegally. It's just descriptive.

By the way, I think we should drastically revamp our system to take in many, many more immigrants. I have nothing against anyone who needs or wants to come here for a better life. But I can't imagine anyone saying we're doing it the right way at present.

What you say used to be true, but last year there were 1.6 million "encounters" with people crossing the border illegally -- a fourfold spike over 2020. Your map is six years old and doesn't reflect current realities.

You’re wrong there. Nobody thinks a mother with four kids is smuggling drugs. But there is no doubt that it’s coming across that border in nefarious ways, and not just at “point of entry.” Hell, the whole of the southern border is a point of entry. And I notice you didn’t address the crime issues. The people in border towns are largely hispanic, and they want it to stop too.
Well....I guess it's a matter of opinion as to who is wrong..as for as your link on crime....ussanews is a right wing rag.

Among other possibly helpful strategies, it's long past time for the Roman Catholic church to get on board with birth control.

People in very poor countries have high birth rates. Those rates drop as their wealth increases. That's true in Catholic and non-Catholic countries as well. The world's highest birth rates are in Africa, which is not predominantly Catholic.

Latin countries swing from free market to socialistic economic policies and back, sometimes within a year or two. No one wants to invest in a place with that kind of risk profile. Lack of capital = lack of opportunity = migration.

Two words: United Fruit

Ah yes, a favorite whipping boy of the Pete Seeger generation.

They did bad things, and as Chiquita Brands probably still do. But Castro nationalized them in 1959 and -- guess what? He still destroyed the Cuban economy and drove tens of thousands of people out of Cuba. And they still operate in Costa Rica, which is stable and sends few migrants north.

My point is that US policies and US companies have indeed had malign impacts on some South American countries. But we didn't "destroy their economies"; that was done by a toxic mixture of colonialism, Catholicism, racism, and political instability, followed by post-colonial Marxism, with different scenarios in each country.

If you think we don't feel any fallout from illegal immigration North, guess again.

I was just in NYC this weekend and the impact of legal and illegal immigration is clear.

By the way, and this is off-topic, the city seemed much cleaner this time than it has on recent visits. Wondering if Mayor Adams is doing the things his idiot predecessor neglected to do, like sweeping the streets once in a while.

I don’t know where you live. I live in Georgia. The Biden Administration flew plane loads to Georgia and Florida. The liberal sanctuary cities are NIMBYS (Not in my backyard). Now they can see what it is like for the border towns.
Sounds like typical right wing propaganda, which slanted media were you getting this bit?
Reality check:
Republicans accuse the Biden administration of organizing secret flights, carrying migrants from the border to communities across the country, that critics have branded "ghost flights."
But that rhetoric is often at odds with the facts. Read the rest of the article here->->-> npr.org

You're saying FDR was a racist? Well, of course he was. He also refused to desegregate the US armed forces, something Harry Truman did by executive order. And he was grossly anti-Semitic, as well, in his policies toward Jewish refugees.

Illegal immigrants aka undocumented people do commit crimes, sometimes heinous crimes. However, their crime rate seems to be lower than that of the general population.

But of course the great mass of illegal arrivals want nothing more than to work, support their families, send some money home and give their children a better life.

There is a Plus side to this immigration...IF it is properly managed. The U.S. Needs Workers. With current unemployment numbers at, or near historic lows, there are huge numbers of jobs going unfulfilled....everything from minimum wage store employees, to good paying construction, factory workers and truck drivers jobs. If these immigrants can be "guided" towards these opportunities, we can all benefit.

Then, too, the nations birthrates are going down in most facets of our society, while the number of retirees are growing as the elderly are living longer. We need more younger and productive people to insure that programs like Social Security remain solvent. With a more sensible approach to immigration, we can all reap some benefits.

No, I intended to use the conjunction as in: 'it is research'.

Well, I'm often wrong and often in doubt. Next time I go after a grammatical nit I'll try at least to be right.

But I still disagree with your contention that we "destroyed these countries' economies". We messed with their internal politics, as did the Soviets and their Cuban proxies, with mixed results.

When I lived in California, immigrants took jobs that Americans were too picky to do.. in current location, maybe they could take jobs that too many locals are too lazy to do.

It used to be a cliche that these immigrants "do the work that US workers won't do". Now it's a stark reality. We desperately need hard workers, and the people I see coming in work really hard at some tough jobs (try roofing in central Virginia in August sometime).

And … “Illegal immigration costs American taxpayers a mind-boggling $134.9 billion annually, according to a detailed analysis of federal, state and local programs that include education, medical, law enforcement and welfare.”

I find it interesting that moving the people raises more concern than the number of these folks who have been killed trying to enter the country. Several hundred of these immigrants have died this year, let alone how many have been raped, sold into human trafficking, how many citizens have died of drug over doses ....

It's easier to be angry than it is to be compassionate and/or empathetic
