mispronunciations

i'm not a grammar/spelling nazi, but something reminded me of things my niece mispronounced incorrectly as a little kid... that we all got a chuckle out of it.
when she was very young... she'd talk about boys and "girs". she also like watching "squirs" run up/down trees.

she had some great ones as she started honing her word attack skills. that Arnold schwarzenegger movie was "PRE-dater". cinderella became a "prink-us". she saw a sign posted urging people to slow down... she pronounced it (whoa) WHO-AH!

my sil pronounced a certain type of salami gen-OH-a.

now me... well, i'm perfect, so never mispronounced a single word in my life. it's a dialect that lead to how i pronounce certain words.

h20 = wooder

that boat that can carry people AND their vehicles is pronounced the same as word to describe a grizzly bear.

that southern vacation destination state is pronounced flARida. it's where we get ARanges.

My daughter enjoyed watching the PRE-dater. And I used to think a raggedy person or thing was BED-raggled.

As for FLARida, yes, when I visited Corinth, Mississippi, a gentleman asked me what I was doing in Carnth. I had to think about it for a second.

A techy on the phone said I should use Skarl Mail. After several back and forths, I realized he meant Squirrel Mail.

Of course, I'm Canadian, so I don't have an accent.

Here's one to keep us busy:

Is it "You've got another thing coming," or "You've got another think coming"?

Around here, they grow a lot of almonds. (Well, 'till the water's gone, which they're predicting not too far down the road.) When I first moved here, the locals made fun of me because I pronounced the L: "AHL-monds." No, no, they kept telling me, it's "AA-mendz!" (The first syllable has the same "a" as in "ram".)
I think more about eating them than pronouncing... seems more important.

i think it's think?!

The latest one I heard was someone talking about intermittent fasting. Only she kept referring to it as “inaminnit” fasting. 😩

The mis-pronunciations or mis-wordings that bug me the most:
nucular for nuclear
I digest for I digress
Using whenever instead of when
I could care less instead of I couldn’t care less
All the sudden instead of all of a sudden
Jerry-rigged instead of jury-rigged

Cutest kid words:
Gril = girl
Penner = corner
Hammerburg = hamburger (this last is part of our family lexicon now. 😂)

I'm from Massachusetts. I never thought Pres. Kennedy had an accent. So, when those foreigners from far off lands, like New Jersey, got lost, they were looking for Worcester, Mass. And did they butcher that name. Locals pronounce it "Wist-ah", Mass". The one town visitors just gave up even trying to pronounce was Leicester, Mass. "Lest-ah, Mass."
BTW, I have no idea why Massachusetts people do this, but you have to add, "Mass." to a city. It's not Boston, it's "Boston, Mass". Oxford, Mass. Springfield, Mass. etc
One other Massachusetts thing is not using car directional signals. Apparently, it is akin to some religious tradition, which is scrupulously followed.
