Are you Trying to Learn Something New?

I’m always learning new things! I stay abreast of technology and that’s a constant learning process.

I’ve become interested in archery. Looking for ranges close by, so I can practice. Would also like my own recurve bow and arrows, and some basic protective gear.

We recently bought an air fryer and cooking in that is very different, so I’ve been learning what works and what doesn’t and that knowledge increases every week.

I’ve been doing more dog fostering recently and have been expanding my skill set there too, so I can be more useful. So I’m learning how to give shots, read microscope slides to detect common worms and other intestinal bugs, know which collar to use depending on the dog’s behavior etc.

I don’t ever intend to stop learning, and it’s so easy…there are countless opportunities everywhere!
 
Yes, I am. Even though I have used Ubuntu as my operating system for many years now, I didn't fully understand it. I was married and my husband took care of anything that came up on it for me. Now I have been learning how to do it myself and realize there are many things available that I don't use because I don't know how. Learning as much as I can now.
 
Yes, Since I had no art training, I'm always trying new techniques with sculpting and painting
to try to teach myself.
I want to know as much as my little mind can comprehend about parallel lives, the cosmos,
the multiverse, the mind-soul connection, metaphysics, remote viewing, thought strengthening,
quantum physics, deep, deep, deep meditation, God and Angels, the afterlife.
 
That's kinda been the story of my life. I almost need to be learning something new - right now it's tenor banjo, ukulele and mandolin (have been learning violin and 5 string banjo). In the past it's been art, needlework, sewing, woodworking, gardening, canning, beer and wine making, Irish dancing etc. Always something LOL I have a voracious mind.
 
Today I set up my brand new Brother laser printer. It took me 1.5 hours but the wifi should work with my laptop and my iphone in addition to my desktop computer. Later, this afternoon, I am off to my first "Happy Hour" at this complex with some of my neighbours. I'm sure to learn something from them while we are "chewing the fat." I do a lot of reading (90% non fiction) to keep my mind sharp but have cut back on reading the "news" as some of it is just plain dumb. The truth is that there is very little I can do about what is happening in the world so I don't get too excited about events; although increasing interest rates always puts a big smile on my face. :)

I also bought a new sewing machine .... having the hardest time threading the needle! ... It is supposed to have a self-threading gizmo built-in - doesn't work for me.
I have family help me with it when they stop over, but that is hardly a good solution. ugh!!
 
I have a cork board with the world’s map. I pick a country to read and study history etc and then put a tack in it. Right now I’m reading about Russia and Ukraine.
I’m embroidering quilt pieces and making blankets also.

Does anyone have a good book to suggest about Russia and Ukraine??
 
not something new... wanna revive my basic crochet skills. bought a few skeins of a thick, SUPER-soft gray yarn... about 2 years ago. plan... make one continuous granny square... till yarn is gone or square is as big as i can stand. i have limited use of left hand... luckily not dominant hand. no fancy stitches... double crochet, i think. have to get past the first few go-rounds and then it'll be mindless.

It's probably easier/faster to just use this kind of needle threader on your machine:

Go to a sewing shop or maybe look on line for a needle threader. Is is a little button sized devise with a small wire loop attached. You push the loop through the needle and then put the threat through the wire loop. Pull the button back and the thread is now threaded. Check it out...
 
Pretty much learning something new everyday. Most of it has to due with mechanical things involved with my hobbies. This winter I will have to learn about working with Fusion 360, and other software connected with using my CNC plasma table, which will be a bit of a stretch for me.

What kind of things do you make on your CNC machine?
 
Although I read and study a range of science, during the last couple years have spent the most time on neuroscience, especially regarding consciousness, and artificial intelligence. A most difficult area of rapid advancements that requires a fair physics, electronics, organic chemistry, and medical science background. Last Wednesday as I waited 2 hours in my car before entering the venue for the Doobie Brothers concert, I re-read 40 pages of a chapter I've already read multiple time as each read better cements that knowledge. Something I often did during my career in hardware electronics where reading terse standards was a constant puzzle with difficult terms.

Depends if you want to read the classics like, "War and Peace" and "The Cossacks?" I believe that Kruschev wrote a biography. If you want to read current news, there's plenty in the news right now in the media. Take it with some doubt. Several months ago the news said Putin was sick and wouldn't be around long. He looks reasonably well to me and unfortunately, he is still around.
