Jimmy Hoffa, Judge Crater, et al

With the drought out West and lakes drying up right and left, whaddaya reckon the chances are that a whole bunch of people who've disappeared over the years will be found? The two most notorious disappearances that come to mind are Jimmy Hoffa, who disappeared in Michigan and Judge Crater, who disappeared in New York City.

There have already been human remains found in Lakes Mead and Powell. Then there's The Great Salt Lake...

Didn't some mob type say Jimmy Hoffa's corpse became part of a parking garage? That's what I heard on some tv show years ago before there was any internet. Judge Crater's disappearance has always fascinated me. Can't imagine where he ended up.

Yabbut...every time some mob dude came along and swore Hoffa's body would be found here, there, or somewhere, it turned out to be not so.

As far as Judge Crater is concerned, heaven only knows where he ended up.

Heck, maybe Amelia Earhart and her plane will be found in one of the lakes!

Check out Ray Gricar. He was a D.A. somewhere in Pennsylvania. I think the cops found his laptop and car. His girlfriend or wife was investigated and found not involved in his disappearance. I remember him because he had refused to indict the guy at Penn State of sexually abusing football players. I think it was Jerry Sandusky.

As for Jimmy Hoffa, I have heard all kinds of theories about what happened to him. Someone once said that since it was about the same time when they built the Meadowlands in New Jersey and where the Giants play their home football games, Hoffa may have been buried under one of the goalposts.

Yeah, Ray Gricar, the D.A. His car was found with his cell phone in it. His laptop was found in the nearby river without the hard drive, which was found further on down the river. There're all kinds of rumors, but the fact is he's just gone, and nobody can find anything to indicate how, or why .

But wasn’t it suspected that the reason he went missing was because he wouldn’t indict Jerry Sandusky and one of the people he molested decided to seek revenge? I thought I had read that at the time.

I was working for the Detroit News when Hoffa disappeared (and I lived only a few miles from where he was last seen). We got a lot of calls at the News from people who claimed to "know" what happened (wink-wink, nod-nod....) Some of the stories were pretty wild.

My theory: The "continuous pour" was going on at the new Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. At that time, it was the largest continuous pour ever. The cement workers were Teamsters. We know Hoffa's relationship with the Teamsters. I sincerely feel that Jimmy Hoffa is one of the "pillars of the community" right now. A great big solid pillar. Can you think of a better place to hide a body?I tr

Either that, or he's in the bottom of my purse.

I'll transgress to another story. Years ago, my car was stolen. When it was recovered, there was a key in the ignition with a keychain attached that had my name on it. Well, you can imagine what the cops and the insurance company thought about that. I explained that my late husband had driven the car exclusively for a couple of years and might have kept a spare key in the car (we had several sets). The car had a very deep console that was full of odds and ends, a lot of fast-food napkins, McDonald Kid's Meal Toys, old sunglasses, pens, bottles of hand cream, etc. Jam packed with junk. I said I had no idea if the set of keys were in there or not, but obviously they were and that's what the thief used to drive the car away after he had "tossed" the console. I made an off-hand remark that for all I knew, Jimmy Hoffa was in the bottom of the console. The insurance clerk, who sounded quite young, asked me innocently, "Do you think this Jimmy Hoffa might have stolen your car?" I had to explain to her that, no, I didn't think Jimmy Hoffa had stolen my car....and why. She honestly had never heard of Jimmy Hoffa.

Second digression: I used to date the nephew of one of the mobsters who "might" have been involved in Hoffa's disappearance. He wouldn't discuss it, so I have no "inside" knowledge.

As for Crater, wasn't he supposed to be "under the boardwalk" at Coney Island?

There was an allegation about Sandusky, but there was little evidence. Gricar went missing way before the Sandusky case really began to unfold. And Gricar was well known as a fair, but hard nosed D.A. He was a work-aholic-70 hour weeks- not the kind of guy , who would let things go. There are all kinds of rumors. His brother did commit suicide almost exactly in the same spot as the car was found, by jumping into the river ?????. The laptop was found near the bridge his brother jumped off from-with the hard drive removed, which was later found up river. And Gricar had researched how to deactivate a laptop, because he had personal data on his county owned laptop.????? He was getting ready to retire. But everybody swears he wasn't suicidal (believe me, as an ex-psych nurse-that's no guarantee). The guy was a D.A., so who knows????? He was just "gone".

That's what I had seen about Hoffa's disappearance. He was encased in cement.

Hoffa supposedly was buried beneath one of the old goal posts at the old NY Giants football stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on Rte. 3

Too good

One break, I retold a joke, that was going around. to some coworkers.

'Hey, did you hear they found Jimmy Hoffa?!'

Young lady;
'No! Where!?

'He was found in a maternity ward, trying to organize labor'

'WOW!'.......who's Jimmy Hoffa?'

On the news just this morning. Law enforcement divers in Allegany Co. Pennsylvania discovered 100 cars in a river , while diving on a tip for just one.

Who knows what investigations that may, or may not stir up?

Which river was not mentioned.
