How Do You Travel In A Taxi?

It's interesting to observe how people behave when travelling in a taxi. Some prefer to sit in the front, others in the back. I like sitting in the back while being 'chauffeured', but twice, while taking a longer journey, the driver asked me to sit in the front so he could chat to me.

I always hate getting involved in conversations in a cab situation. Often, the driver has very heavy accented English and I can't understand them, and I once said 'yes' to something stupid because I didn't understand. I'm always saying "What? What?" It doesn't help that I'm going deaf too! I must learn to always shut up in these cars.

The only time I have ever been in a taxi is when I travel to Germany or England. It's only to get me to my hotel, back and forth from the airport. And that has been years ago; I'm sure things have changed since then.
Never have I called for a taxi in the states, I always drive myself. Call me lucky...:)

Back in the day, if you lived in the city, you either took a bus or a cab, depending on where you needed to go. Plenty of people still use both.

In the early 1990's I owned a taxi license and cab in one of the cities that surround Toronto. I drove it 3 or 4 days of the week, depending on the shifts I worked at Metro Toronto Ambulance. My strict rule was "no smoking in my cab ". I also wouldn't let anyone ride in the front seat. JimB.

I have taken a taxi maybe a couple times, and do not remember the experience. I lived in New York city and always used the subways. Someone always had a car when we drove. When I saw this thread the first thing that came to mind was the TV sitcom "Taxi" and Jim, the crazed out dude.

Imagine getting a ride with him! :)

I still take a taxi when I need to. Love love love to talk to the drivers…most I have gotten came as immigrants. Interesting to hear their stories. Last guy had an electric car which he had put over 100000 miles on in a year…said it was the best vehicle he had ever owned.

It depends on local custom. In cities, one tends to sit in the back. In small towns, maybe the front.

In Covid times, the back.
