Terrible movies of late

Has anyone else noticed that for the last few decades, movies have been getting worse and worse.
Don't get me wrong. i'm not saying that there are no good movies, but the trend is downward ... spiraling into outright stupidity.
Example: The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then Bigfoot.

Some of this is due to most of the greatest actors having passed on. Once, the big movie studios "owned" the rights to the stable of their actors.

But, IMO, the biggest single reason for terrible movies is a lack of great stories, or at least, a decision to produce terrible stories.

I suspect, however, the desire to make a quick buck, regardless of how bad the movie ends up is also a major factor.
That and the film studios are producing mostly films for uneducated teens.

Also, have you noticed that nudity/obvious se*uality is used to attract viewers. Oh, sure, in the past there was often the HINT of se*uality, but never, repeat never, nudity. Yes, in the past, the film faded to black to indicate se*ual activity had happened. Geez, in the old days, men and women in the film had to sleep in separate beds, even married people. I'm no prude, i enjoy an OCCASION glimpse of nudity, but it should, IMO, not be the mainstay of the film, nor used in place of a great story.

What say you ?

Maybe, however this could just be due to the number of films being produced, the most since the advent of talkies. And our forgetting many of the mediocre films of the past. Not sure there are any fewer good ones these days, just more bad.
 

I could not agree more!! The movies of the past several years have been horrible. Blood and guts and goofy sci-fi movies. Not appealing and many actors/actresses are very unappealing.
 
I don’t like explicit sex scenes and you are correct in your statement regarding a lacking quality actors/actressses who perform in today’s films and movies. Somewhere along the way movie/film directors began substituting special effects, the bigger bang, hiring mediocre characters to act in movies based on sex appeal and looks. Hey you don’t need to be a skilled actor/actress to become a box office hit, just be naked and let the promoters bring in the crowds and be entertained by what is implied. Isn’t that what acting’s all about?

The movies I watch come from streaming services such as Hulu, Netflix, Peacocktv, YiouTubee and Amazon Prime, However, the quality and selection of AmazonPrime Videos are seriously lacking in watchability so I don’t even bother.
 
The Marvel Cinematic Universe turned Hollywood on it's ear and set a new standard for box office success, but it has taken a severe downturn since Stan Lee died and Marvel sold out to Disney. I've tried to research why this is the case, and while most critics agree that Marvel has lost it's magic touch, they attribute the fall to other reasons than the two I've given, although they don't directly name the new management by name while agreeing with me that it's due to bad management decisions... So in keeping with the thread title "Bad Movies of Late," the last really bad movies I watched were Thor: Love and Thunder, and Dr. Strange: The Multiverse of Madness. I took me three days to watch Thor. I was so bored I had to turn it off, but still having hopes for Marvel, I forced myself to watch the whole thing.

I believe Marvel was so popular that Disney bought it out so they could make uninteresting movies that ride on the momentum of a once dedicated following. Disney does make good movies, but they don't seem to know what to do with super heroes.
 
It seems like Hollywood is spitting out new movies every week. There are a lot of “stars” in some of these movies I have never heard their name before.
 
The real weird ones are the old stars making B movies. It must quite humbling to have to make your living in those circumstances. The digital "world" has changed everything. We live in a world that is fed to us, and we rarely have any option but to watch. Or not. It gets lonely if you can't connect with others even virtually or vicariously.
 
The only movies I watch are older ones on DVD from the library. There are so many I have never see that are good, and some I want to see a second time. If an old movie and even music is being re-visited, it must be good if it's still available having withstood the test of time.
 
There are really only two types of movies made. #1-Chick flicks
#2 action flicks aimed at 13 year old boys.
Those are the two main ticket buying groups. So, if you want to make money, you have to make a movie that appeals to one of those groups.

Something I noticed about nudity in movies: decades ago, I had cable tv for awhile, I think it was HBO- and saw a few movies which, earlier or later, I also saw in their "edited" versions on regular network tv. In my opinion, the nudity was entirely unnecessary, didn't add anything useful to the storyline.
Examples I recall: Carrie, the original National Lampoon's Vacation, Hollywood Knights.

What gets me is all the remakes of old movies. They can't seem to come up with anything new anymore. Coming to mind: Carrie, Ocean's Eleven, Freaky Friday...so many more! When they do a remake of Gone With The Wind I'll have to buy the DVD just so I can burn it.

Yes, I agree. Very few "remakes" are worth watching.

Kinda makes me wonder if the ORIGINAL Ben Hur would flop in today's market.

For many years I enjoyed every Tom Hanks movie. One of his latest, however, Greyhound, was horrible. Can't imagine why he would agree to star in such a pitiful film.
 
The last time we went to a movie theater was 3 or 4 years ago....Tom Hanks "A beautiful day in the Neighborhood". I haven't seen any "trailers" since that arouse my interest. I see enough violence and human stupidity on the daily news.
