Kanye West is buying Parler

This also looks like a bid to control mass media's direction...BIG $$$. Elon Musk is a supporter of Kanye says the Sun. If interested I will post the articles web site.

What should be the concern is the desire to normalize Hate Speech and, especially, for 'Ye', anti-semitism. Popularizing mental cases in this country? We're doomed. It's a war and the stupid side is gaining momentum. Wake up.
They have been publicly complaining about being 'stifled', even as their media acquisitions continue to skyrocket. They want to control speech in this country(world). With David Koch's investment in NPR WGBH and PBS' Nova it should be apparent who's really doing the stifling.
What is Parler:
Parler has a significant user base of conservatives. The app also has a number of high-profile Republican users, including Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, as well as Fox News host Sean Hannity. The Anti-Defamation League wrote in November 2020 that "Parler has attracted a range of right-wing extremists" including Proud Boys; proponents of the QAnon conspiracy theory; anti-government extremists including members of the Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, and other militia groups

Kanye West and others of his ilk are wealthy, powerful, egocentric narcissists who use social media platforms to push their own agenda and influence the attitudes and behavior of others. They not only use it to boost their own products but also to dictate health and politics, among other things. Unfortunately, they have millions of "followers" who they care nothing about. I'm not one of them.

I've never been on Tick Tock, Instagram, Twitter, etc and left Facebook eons ago almost as soon as I joined...but from what I read and hear, aren't social media owners already "controlling speech" by filtering, banning, and blocking what some of it's members say based on what the owner's beliefs are? And didn't I read that Elon Musk wants to stop that and give everyone free speech that is respectfully and truthfully posted? I don't know anything about the others pictured.

Parler is like Twitter. Only they don't monitor what is or isn't written, so they don't kick people off for writing disinformation and whatever else. A subscriber can put just about anything on it, including using hate speech and items with racial overtones. I don't think anything written is redacted or pulled.

Well, everyone has their story, but I think that Elon Musk's motives are the complete opposite from what you mention.
Facebook and Twitter recognize that hate speech is just bad for business, that's their motivation. From what I understand, Ticktok is an app that aggressively collects the user's information, more so than the typical smartphone app.

It is on Twitter today that the deal has closed.
Musk posted a picture on his Twitter page that showed him carrying in a small sink into the main building, and it was captioned “let this sink in”, which I thought was a cute caption and shows his sense of humor.

He wrote a post explaining why he decided to buy Twitter, and you can read the whole thing on his page.
I am not going to copy it here, but in case you do not have Twitter, here is the basic gist of the post.
In his opinion, we need some kind of a “public platform “, kind of like the old time town squares, where people could express their opinions and ideas together, and he believes that the best way to do this now would be to do it digitally, in a platform like Twitter.

He agrees that the social media programs we have now are not working, and a lot of it is polarized to either the extreme left or right (Americans), and any other view is not allowed on the platform.
His plan for Twitter is that it will be a place where everyone can express their viewpoint and not be shut down, as long as they do it in a respectful and considerate manner.

From what I have seen, I believe that Elon Musk does care about humanity, and wants to help make the earth a better place for people to live.
He stated that he does not know whether his hopes for Twitter will work out, but he believes that he needs to at least make the effort to try and make it work.

Yea, not seeing any sign of that.

So Musk is going to restore #45's Twitter account- how **special**.

"Musk’s plans to reduce the app’s censorship have excited followers of the conspiracy theorist QAnon, according to The New York Times’ Stuart A. Thompson, who explained Wednesday that the Q world imagines “they will be unbanned and can reach normies again with their theories” after Musk takes over. Thompson also pointed out that the phrase Musk used, “let that sink in,” is associated with a QAnon communique, or a “Q drop,” dated Wednesday."

Sadly, Tucker Carlson devoted an hour to his "greatness"...lol, last week and then a few days later his sponsors began dropping West. As well they should. I've never waisted my time on him and wish he just go away but maybe he will confine himself to Parlor.

I have not read anything about what accounts will be restored, if any. Some people have left and moved on, and would probably not come back anyway.
However, just like any other social media platform (including this forum), all you have to do is block a person‘s account, and then you never even see any posts that they make.
Mainly, I only see posts from people that I follow on Twitter, and I imagine that is how it will continue to be.

Since Elon Musk has bought all of the stock in Twitter, he has apparently taken it off of the stock market, and it is now a privately owned company, so he manage it however he wants to do.
I am sure that one of the first things will be to get rid of the many bot accounts on the platform.

There are SO many interesting topics that I like to read about, so I am not really concerned about the political aspect, and just want to continue to be updated about things that I am interested in.

Not an expert or able to diagnose any mental illness or personality disorder, except my own mother. But I have read that borderline personality disordered people can be mis-diagnosed as bi-polar due to the extreme mood swings. I've also read that he is a histrionic personality disorder but that was some time ago and I don't remember where.

Clearly he is enabled, even perhaps by his own wealth. Mental illness seems to be a new thing to discuss and have. It's probably been around for years, it's just become more popular. And never forget the victims of any mental illness or personality disorder.

The way I understand it is that Tic Toc had the ability to steal information out of your device and can even listen in on your conversations. Yes or no?

All mobile apps collect user's information, but the concern is that TikTik is owned by Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance and China is an economic and foreign policy rival to the U.S. government. Article

I never quite understood the need to collect information, unless it's to sell to marketing companies that know who is interested in what products. For example, if I have a bunch of stuff on my computer about hunting gear they could sell my personal information to Dicks Sporting Goods who in turn would flood me with sale catalogs and such in hopes that I may buy from them. Or, if they could tell that I am looking for a new car, then they would sell my information to a variety of auto manufacturers and in turn I would receive all kinds of ads about their cars or trucks.

Elon Musk revealed a while ago that he has Asperger's, a type of Autism spectrum disorder that affects social skills.
